Finished watching ‘Piece of Cake’……. a few points of note>>>
*Don’t like Moggy (Sorry Moggy C – your namesake was a complete b*******)
*Awesome low flying by the master (Hanna Senior)
*The credits read like a memorial to past display pilots
*Possibly the best series I’ve seen….
*Why were the cannons retained on the spitfires? They did well with the whole thing, and I appreciate that finding 4 or 5 airworthy Mk1’s or II’s would have been impossible, but removing the cannons of the IX’s would have been so much more pleasing to the eye.

No name mentioned. Also a lovely verse by Patience Strong.
Lord, hold them in thy mighty hand
Above the ocean and the land.
Like the wings of eagles mounting high
Along the pathways of the sky.
Immortal is the name they bear,
And high the honour that they share.
Until a thousand years have rolled
Their deeds of valour shall be told.
In dark of night and light of day,
God speed and bless them on their way.
And homeward safely guide each one
With glory gained and duty done.
It was called.- A hymn for the RAF.
Another book named. Five of The Few. Five pilots stories from the BoB.

so, you like Sea Furies then???
😀
I got a display cabinet for my die-cast models 🙂
I have three cabinets, two from Index that are about to fall apart, and a decent one from Homebase with a backlight – where is this from if I may ask?
Mine are tall rather than wide like yours, and the Homebase one strong enough to put some mirrored tiles on the shelving so the undersides can be seen.

Are there many plates in Pooleys taken from 6000 feet then?
Well the pictures are pretty small so maybe…
By: Zute - 28th December 2007 at 22:39
A nice 2008 copy of Pooleys, now when I arrive overhead an airfield I can flick through until I find one where the picture matches whats on the ground, I will then know where I am.

Other than that I have been spending money on books: Mustang, The Racing Legend: Wet Wings and Drop Tanks: The Mighty Eighth Warpaint and Heraldry: Mighty Eighth In Colour.

Hello and hope you all had a good Christmas, received two books, Kent Airfields in the Second World War and Wings On My Sleeve by the remarkable Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown who is the only man alive to have flown every major (and most minor) combat aircraft of the Second World War as well as all the early jets, and he is occasionally seen on aviation/war programmes on the ‘Discovery’ channels. I believe he has long held the record for the highest number of landings on aircraft carriers, is an excellent read judging by what I have read so far, landing a Mosquito on a carrier deck for one example!

MK 2 not MK v
Hello Ross.
I have to agree with Bolyman that it looks like a MK2 cockpit. If it was a MKV it would not have been in as good a condition with it being a completely wooden fuselage.
