Mosquito remains at Malta Aviation Museum, rescued from a scrap yard in Kalafrana where they also suffered a fire.
Interesting in the shots is the background ‘cave’ one of the many that were being dug during WWII at Ta’ Qali airfield with the intention of using them as pens, very similar to those in Pantelleria. However the stone was found to be too clayey and the project had to be abandoned, in fact a central support was left so that the roof does not collapse. I believe it’s the last remaining one there on that side of the airfield, as the others were blown up and cleared to make way for the national stadium that is right next door.

Very interesting and thanks for sharing! Look forward to further updates. Wonder how long it will be before a certain duxford based airshow is mentioned……

Yep sorry I made it to easy I will have to try a lot harder.
Yes its a mossie that turned up on Malta fairly recently. In the south of the island used to be a character who had lots of bit s of aircraft including around 6 Mossie nose persepex etc he would not sell then after many year sthey all got smahsed.Well he died not very long ago and his son suddenly contacted the Museum at Taqali and offered it to them. It sidentity is unkinown but around 6 Mossies had major accidents on th eisland so it is assumed to be one of them.If only over the 20 years plus we had been going to see him we had known he had this sitting in his yard !!!!
They hope to go back shortly to speak to him as its is thought there might be a couple more bits surviving in the undergrowth.
As a PS Ted Whites Harvard Engine and prop have also been rescued from the same place.

I agree with Mike, Mosquito. It’s the same as the complete one at London Colney I have a photo of.

Title
Mike, You should amend the title of your post to “What aircraft WAS it”:D
I’ll have a guess – Whirlwind?
No, I’ve changed my mind – Mossie?
