hi sorry no dash number, i was looking to buy one thats on ebay and i wanted to know what it was fitted to but as it seems the specific type was not fitted to the spitfire or hurricane so i’ve kind of lost interest in the idea but thanks for the offer thought, thanks guys!

Yes it did!
But not the Balliol I`m afraid, Merlin 35.

Mean Machine, if the Merlin 500 has a Dash Number, I can tell you what it was intended for.

Boulton Paul Balliol (perhaps ?), some of the airworthy Spitfires and Hurricanes (including the BBMF aircraft) have been fitted with -500’s in the past though this no longer seems to be the trend. I beleive Lanc PA474 had some for a time. Probably due to all those blue coloured examples that came from the Spanish Air Force in the 1970’s. I seem to remember WoGB having about 60 at one time!

York, Lancastrian, Casa 2-111, but not the North Star (Argonaut) which had two-stage Merlin 600 or 700 series engines.
