Rhodesia used SR serials when it was Southern Rhodesia, then moved on to RRAF. The RAF did use RR serials from 181 to 998, but with big gaps and many cancellations.

Without any context (where, when, what source the reference – a photo, a note, logbook, order, newspaper, envelope- back of) it’s a bit shooting in the dark as the obvious first refs come up blank.
We don’t even know if the questioner is after both serials or can’t clearly read a possible R or P on one source.
Apart from RAF serials, RAAF usually are A00-000 in three series, and no other Australian serial model seems to fit.

Just a thought: Didn’t the Royal Rhodesian Air Force prefix their serials with RR or was that RRAF, as in RRAF715 not RR715. It was a long time ago, back in the days of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

RR715 was not in an issued batch (nothing between 708 and 723). And the whole series of Oxfords from RR383 to 906 was cancelled (see Bruce Robertson’s Serials book).

Sorry, wasn’t concentrating. I should have put my doubts next to the Oxford, not the Tempest. Doh!!

Hi David
RR 715 Airspeed Oxford
PR 715 Hawker Tempest Mark 2 ?? not 100% certain but this serial would fall in the range issued to the Tempest, just not sure if it was issued. I will try to check it out later when I can get to my references (unless someone can say for sure).

Hi David
PR715 is a Tempest II
RR715 does not seem to have been issued?
