What aircraft were at Salon de Provence in 1939?

I have just read “La Fille du Puisatier” (The Well-Maker’s Daughter) by Marcel Pagnol. The young hero is a French “fighter pilot” at Salon de Provence just at the outbreak of World War II, and an early scene is in April 1939 at an aerobatics display. What I want to know is what aircraft would they have been flying? The film version was made in 1940, and I have not seen it in its entirety, and do not know if the aerial events are depicted. However a new version just came out, and I saw the trailer on the net, with very brief aerial shots. The aircraft appear to be Stearmans, but that does not seem right!
I have found that they used the MS230 and MS315 for training at Salon Air Academy in 1939, and maybe the Spad510, but did they have any fighters at that time? Did the fictive air display actually take place in April 1939?
Any ideas?
