If you had the chance to do an air to air sortie, what you you like to be in and what would you like to fly in formation with?
The idea being to select aircraft that are already airworthy and on the airshow circuit or at least attend fly-ins.
Having chosen your pair, how much would you be prepared to pay for the experience?
To kick things off.
I’d like to fly in the rear of a two seat Spit in formation with a Sea Fury. If I could have an aircraft off the other wing it’d be an ME109G. And as formations go I reckon that would look pretty awesome.

Was lucky enough to fly in a Seneca which was acting as a camera ship for some publicity photo’s for the Humberside airshow years ago. The other a/c? The mossie HTE. One of the best days of my life.
As for the future, being in the Dak being pursued by ‘474 and a brace of Spits and Hurri’s would be just fine….I can but dream.

Well there are two formations that 1) could have happened but didn’t 2) could happen and I hope will
1) In Australia at one stage we could have put in the air at once a Lockheed Electra Junior , 2 Hudsons, A Loadstar and a Ventura and a B25 which would have been unique and all types which served with the RAAF now one Hudson is grounded , The Loadstar is grounded in NZ , the Ventura is damaged and awaiting repairs so I guess that one will never eventuate
2) One that could happen in the future is the RAAF/USAAF/C Medium bomber formation involving Hudson, Beaufort, Boston , A26, B25 and at a pinch throw the Avengers (5?) in as well – Bring on the Bombers I say!! All of these aircraft are/will fly here soon

I’ve been privileged to fly with a bunch of planes I could NEVER have dreamed of flying with, and have the pics to prove it….but my favorite, even though I did’nt have the best vantage point, was this last June in Connecticut…

For myself i would love to sit in the back of Mr. Greenwood’s Spitfire TE308 and photograph Spitfire MK923, but because of it not being airworthy anymore my second choice would be Mr. Potters Spitfire SL721.
Hopefully the Thunder over Michigan 2006 goes as planned and these 2 Spit’s are together with the other 5 that are planned.

The Mew Gull, Hawk Speed Six and DH Comet ‘Grosvenor House’ from a Maggie (no doubt red-lining it to keep up!). Mmmmmmmm!

I want to do another camera sortie with an Auster V. A superb camera ship with the door off and also a lot of fun to fly. As for the ‘target’ anything really!
Might be a nice camera ship but they are cold and draughty with the door off when crossing Norfolk to do a poppy drop….

For me it would have to be Chipmunk WP896 the first aircraft I flew in with Sally B on one side and PA474 on the other

I would like nothing better then to fly a B17 on another B17s wing. It would bring back a lot of memories.

I’d be flying the Bearcat, in formation with the Tigercat, Hellcat and Wildcat – or any Grumman really.
How much would you be prepared to pay for the experience?
It would be wonderful if someone paid me!

Over a span of 35 years I have been extremely privileged to fly jump seat in a good many of the exotic Warbird fighters and bombers, including mass formation sorties.
I have just one box in mind to tick before I get to the end of the runway – the mighty Lancaster…and if a Spitfire XII should pop up one side and a Seafire 46 on the other, well, it just couldn’t get any better. 🙂
My wife, I know, would be pick the Swordfish.

Oops, really should read the first post. As for already airworthy aircraft, i’d like to be in an Auster III, with the other two airworthy Auster III’s on each side of me. Not a glamorous aircraft, but played a vital role in WW2, have local interest for me (they were made in Leicester) and they look and sound nice to boot!

Well i’d like to have a Hawker Typhoon in formation with me, me in a Hawker Typhoon as well, sweeping over France looking for tanks, trucks and trains to shoot up and rocket
Your ambition is enviable and one many would share, other than cowards like me who’d rather have a very fast aircraft to run away from the people trying to kill me 😉
However, would you like to have another go, but this time answering the original question? 🙂
