Well we’ve had the ‘what music are you listening to now’ thread, I thought we could have ‘what are the last albums you brought’ thread. I say this as I have gone kinda crazy in the last week, and have spent my money on 16 albums in a little over 7 days. Spent most of this weekend browsing record shops in London, looking for all the bargains I could get hold of 😀
It’d be nice to get a list of some of the albums you have spent your money on recently, and maybe say something about them. If any of those listed are owned by you too, then say what you think.
Here goes with my list from the last week:
Prodigy-Music For The Gilted Generation (Needed this older album to complete my Prodigy collection)
Thrice-Illusion of Safety (Saw them play live after waiting a while, felt the need to get their brilliant albums!)
Thrice-Artist In The Ambulance (Same as above)
Brand New-Deja Entendu (Fairly un-known band, bit of a mix of acoustics and punk orientated songs)
Funeral For A Friend-7 Ways To Scream Your Name (Had to get this to go along side the album of my favourite band! One of their original EP’s. What can I say? Absolutely bloody brilliant! 😀 )
Finch-What It Is To Burn (Would be pleased if someone else listens to these on here. Very unique sound, an album you can’t get bored of)
Story Of The Year-Page Avenue (Much the same as above, but not quite as good! 😉 )
Foo Fighters-One by one (Had the album copied for ages, but wanted the proper version to alongside ‘There is nothing left to lose’)
AFI-Sing the Sorrow (Another unique band, quite big yet relatively unknown. Fantastic album though, if it’s your taste)
The Used-The Used (Again, much the same as above. Could have been more inventive with the album name though)
The Clash-From Here To Eternity (Great live album, especially wanted it for ‘London Calling’ but is overall a very good album still)
Oasis-What’s the Story.Morning Glory? (Too many Oasis albums for me to afford, but had to get this one! Come on, it has got Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger 😉 )
The Offspring-Ixnay On The Hombre (Needed this to finish off my Offspring collection. Good album but not quite as god as some of their others)
Muse-Origin of Symmetry (Excellent album, I feel it may even be better than Absolution)
Pixies-Doolittle (Was looking for some of these classics, and they happened to be going for quite cheap. Definitely worth it! 😀 )
Pixies-Surfer Rosa and Come On Pilgrim (Same as above)
I think that’s it! Now time to go and start listening to some of them…. 😎

Great to see some of your musical tastes, keep them rolling in!
Have been playing The Pixies now for the past 3 days constantly, especially Doolittle.
SteveYoung, I got the REM greatest a little while ago. Certainly is a very good album 😀

Last few I bought:
Keane – Hopes and Fears (great cd, but just can’t really listen to it yet)
Sheryl Crow – Best of (didn’t realise how much good stuff she’s done over the years)
some acoustic compilation cd (no idea what it’s called, but it’s got loads of good stuff on it)
REM – greatest hits (or whatever it’s called. VERY good…)
The one I’m waiting for with baited breathe (don’t laugh) is Duran Duran’s new one. Saw them at Nottingham in April and they were fantastic; that new single of theirs “Reach up for the sunrise” is pretty damn good too. 🙂

Razorlight – Up all Night and the eponymous Scissor Sisters CD, which I think is excellent.

‘Up All Night’ by Razorlight is brilliant.
I bought it the same night that I heard them play on Parkinson just a couple of weeks back. I had never heard of them before, but the song they sang persuaded me to buy the album.
Listened to it many times now, and noticed today that is has climbed to number 4 in the album chart!

These are the ones I bought most recently – and in no particular order:
Stiff Little Fingers – No Sleep ‘Til Belfast
John Foxx – Modern Art – Best of
Wreckless Eric – Greatest Stiffs
Tenpole Tudor – Swords of a Thousand Men – Best of
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Best of
Joan Armatrading – The Collection
New Order – Substance
Groove Armada – Vertigo
Associates – Sulk
The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Yes – I am all over the place! But the whole lot cost £40 so I can take a few hits and misses amongst that lot…

Got all of those albums other than Franz Ferdinand. Don’t particularly like Snow Patrol, slightly too pop-orientated and ‘manufactured’ IMO. Gun ‘n’ Roses is an excellent choice, and yes the solos are pretty damn good! Got Absolution as I mentioned, very very good album but I think it could quite possibly be beaten by Origin of Symmetry.

Some excellent choice there, especially Oasis and Muse. You could be right about Origin of Symmetry. As for me, well, it’s going to look quite pitiful next to your’s but my most recent purchases are:
Franz Ferdinand(self-titled) ( Such a unique sound, and a good one at that)
Muse- Absolution ( very good, and my first Muse album)
Guns ‘n’ Roses- Greatest Hits ( you can tell it’s quality because of the length of all the tracks on it! Can’t beat a guitar solo by Slash either, that’s for sure! 😀 )
Snow Patrol- Final Straw( great album IMO)
