India produced some 158 MiG-21Ms from 1973 up to 1981.
According to Wikipedia, the Indian MiG-21Ms are equivalent to MiG-21MF and not Soviet MiG-21M. That would imply uprated engine and radar.
The type was an exclusively Indian model and not issued a MiG izdeliye number. Indian designation was Type 88.
India did take delivery of 65 Soviet MiG-21Ms as well.
What differences were there between Indian MiG-21Ms and Soviet MiG-21MFs?
The MiG-21M is still in service by the looks of it, with following squadrons apparently being equipped with the type:
17 Sqn – MiG-21M
35 Sqn – MiG-21M (possibly disbanded)
37 Sqn – MiG-21M
101 Sqn – MiG-21M
108 Sqn – MiG-21M
Also are any MiG-21FL’s still in service? I heard they were retired in 2005-ish but still see them listed on various ORBATS as serving with MOFTU.
