Over here in England tomorrow (Monday) is a Bank Holiday, and that’s why I’m sitting here drinking weapons grade cider at a steady rate, this got me thinking what national holidays do other countries have and for what reasons, religious, commemorative etc. I look forward to reading your replies.

RE: What are your national holidays?
Let’s see,
for Holland it’s
Queens day, 30 April, The birthday of the Queen (well the Queen Mother in fact)
Remembrance of the Death, may 4, Two minutes of silence (8h00 PM) to remember all who (Dutchmen and women) have died in conflicts since W.W.II.
Liberation’s day, 5 may, the end of WWII
Prinsjesdag, 3rd Wednesday of September, the start of a new political year.
That’s it!
Not to much is it.
Regards,
jw

Over here in the Channel Islands we get the same holidays as the UK but we also get days off for special island occasions, for example we get thursday of this week of called Liberation day when our islands were liberated from the Germans. Also we all get a day off in september for the battle of Britain air show when there are two large airshows on Guernsey and Jersey.

RE: What are your national holidays?
In India we have a huge no. of holidays. Mainly religious as there are so many religions here. However, this is mainly for the Public sector undertakings. Most of the Pvt. Sector organisations are not so generous giving on an average just 6 days a year.

RE: What are your national holidays?
We have a few here in Oz. Its Labour Day today for me in Queensland (one of our states), so I too am sitting here at home, but I would rather be at work earning double time and a half!. 🙂
Others are the Queen’s Birthday, ANZAC day, Australia Day, Labour Day of course and then there is the selection of local holidays from state to state.
Regards, Glenn.

RE: What are your national holidays?
More holidays = happy workforce, I’ll agree to that, I think here in the U.K. we have almost the lowest amount of national holidays in Europe, although being self-employed I can take time off when it suits me, but time off means no pay, so this does’nt happen to often.

RE: What are your national holidays?
Well guys, here in Spain we have lots. Commemorative for example the working day, the day of the constitution, the regional ones, the religious, and then we make the so called bridges….so if a holiday falls on thursday….we get the friday too. If tuesday we get monday. With such a lot of holidays, its odd that Spanish economic figures are quite well. Probably more holidays means more productions beacuse we are happy?.:-)
