Battle of Britain DVD.
Spring Chicken to Sh!tehawk in one easy lesson!
Ditto
For the first time I was able to read the names of the Polish pilots chalked on the blackboard in the “Royal Air Force is not a flying circus…” scene. Interesting reading, and interesting that a Spitfire undergoes servicing outside the window during the scene. Anyone knows which one this is? 😉

Scruffy Journalism.
Having dropped the appropriate hint :), Mrs Mark12 very kindly presented me with a copy of the the new Jeremy Clarkson book, ‘I Know You Got Soul – Machines with that certain something’, a book he locked himself away in a cellar, for three months, to write!
The last chapter is about the Spitfire. I would not disagree with the final line in the book and I quote:-
“Possibly, just possibly, the Spitfire is the greatest machine ever made.”
However, if I was going to splash the following, in blue, upper case, 6mm high font, across half a page, I just might have checked a bit deeper into the accuracy. 🙂

Snap………..
And I don’t mean just zilch aviation related either….I mean ZILCH…. 🙁
Still, they say it’s better to give than to receive.
Roll on Easter………
For me it was nothing at all, not even aviation related, but by choice. It sort of takes some of the anticipation out for Carol as everything wrapped up is for her but I much prefer it that way.

Diecast Lanc and B-17E
DVDs “Warplanes of WWII” and “The RAF at War”
Books “The Encyclopaedia of Modern Jets” and “100 Years of Flight”
A wooden children’s mobile with biplanes on it (think the missus might be trying to tell me something)
All in all, not a bad haul…

Hi Locobuster.
is this book any good?
Andy
Andy, I am only about half way through the book at this point and thus far it’s been a good read, a lot of vintage pictures and personal accounts from former 355th. personnel, a few pages of excellent color shots and even a fold-out map of the airfield. While it’s not the greatest book of the type I have ever read it is definitely good. I love books with personal accounts from the folks who were there and this sure fits that bill. There are also several excellent lists at the back of the book that include all of the 355th. pilots and an extensive list of their planes with names, serials, etc.
I’d say between this, and the other book about the base Mr. Wells has written, you could learn everything you ever wanted to about Steeple Morden and the men who were stationed there.
I got mine from a buddy in the UK who attended a book signing, it’s even autographed. He surprised me with it just in time for Christmas. 😀

DVD of Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004. Some lovely aerials but the highlight for me was Ray Hanna briefing the pilots of the Breitling Fighters to “fly under the helicopter”.

“Steeple Morden Strafers” by Ken Wells
Hi Locobuster.
is this book any good?
I often visit the village and would like a bit more info on the 355th and what went on there.
In the Summer I often go there to see a friend play Cricket. There’s often a bit of overhead traffic in and out of Duxford so while sitting under the Oak trees that surround the village Cricket green one can often see Spitfires overhead.
A perfect way to spend a Summer’s day–one of the three we get each year!!
Cheers
Andy

Two books, “Steeple Morden Strafers” by Ken Wells and “Warbirds” by Jeff Ethell as well as a replacement for my broken copy of IL2 Forgotten Battles, a copy of Warbirds III and a little motorized fan in the shape of an airplane. My family finds me easy to shop for, believe me, LOL! Oh and I also got a great CD full of excellent pics from a nice man in the UK, thanks again, Mike! 😀

‘Just One of The Pioneers’
Although not aviation related I also got the ‘Band of Brothers’ DVD set and ‘The Beast’, and excellent film about a Russian T-62 crew that gets lost in Afghanistan.

I also am reliably informed I’m a Grumpy Old Man, so I’m now working at it.
I haven’t seen the book but did see the TV series. The strange thing is that it’s Mrs DHFan that told me I’m a GOM, and she also agreed with virtually everything said. 🙂

Half way through it so far and I havent read a word I disagree with 🙂
