I have just finished reading a book titled “Gray Eagles” by the author Duane Unkefer first published in 1986.
It tells the fictional story of 8 former Luftwaffe ace’s who meet up in 1976 and fly restored ME109G’s which has been rebuilt by a former Vietnam veteran, then their leader decides to seek revenge on a former USAF pilot who was responsible for shooting him down in 1945 forcing a rematch over the skies of America. I will not go into every detail of the book as it would spoil it for anybody wishing to read it however to me this would be my choice of what aviation book I would like to see on the big screen.
Whats yours?

“Fly For Your Life”……except nobody would believe it! 😉
I bought that back in 1968, when there were lots of books coming out for the RAF’s 50th Anniversary. Lent it to my cousin and never got it back. :diablo:
One the plus side, I did recently find my copy of Ginger Lacey, Fighter Pilot.

Vulcan 607 😎
I glanced at my copy of Vulcan 607 on the book case in my bedroom this morning and thought that it would make a fantastic film!

It would have been ideal for the likes of the late John Mills, Moggy.

Tramp in Armour it’s the story of the tank and it’s crew’s attempts to rejoin the BEF.
I read that years ago and it is simply brilliant. It would make a great movie and wouldn’t need a huge budget or masses of CGI.
First Light? How could a big screen version improve upon the very passable tele of a year or two back?
Moggy

“Boyd”–about the tortured soul who essentially invented ACM.

There was a bloke on here – ‘NewGuy’ – who was working on a Bob Tuck screenplay. I wonder how he is getting on?

for me, “First Light”. Find it so atmospheric, esp Mr Wellum’s days of school, cricket and training. Then comes his part in theatre…
Wonderful book and very well dramatised for TV. Not sure if that could be bettered on the big screen.

I’d love to see a drama based on the stories in Airborne by Neil Williams.

Pastoral by Nevil Shute for me as a tv drama

Failing that, 50 Shades of Grey… absolute filth (so I am led to believe by the other half) 😮

Tramp in Armour

All about a Matilda tank that gets trapped in a tunnel, when they get out the Germans panzers have past them by chasing the BEF towards the sea, it’s the story of the tank and it’s crew’s attempts to rejoin the BEF.

Down to a Sunless Sea.. by David Graham. Its no a historic story but it does involve a 5 engined 747 that is mid Atlantic when WW3 begins below them and what happens next.
Great story but as it was produced in 1977 some of is a little bit far fetched..cuban army in Ireland? but some of it is appropriate, for instance America is in a deep financial crisis and the oil has gone.
I remember reading that book …. It was awful! my excuse was that I was doing a long trip at sea on a tanker and had run out of anything else to read!
As regards books I would like to see as films; Night Fighter would do it for me, as long as the Blenheims, Beaufighters and Mosquitos were real and not CGI! Also possibly ‘The Big Show’, but that might raise issues of fact vs. fiction?
