What did I find?? WW2 compass

I have found an old compass among my grandfathers old things don’t know anything about it can anyone help me???
the compass was made by the Ontario Hughes Owens Company I am cleaning out all my grandfathers stuff because we sold his house need to know if it is a collectiable pice to keep or it is a commin pice and I can pass it on.

Repair crew and/or supply are actually more likely to get their hands on aircraft parts than pilots.

thanks I just wanted to know a little more about it to see if I was going to pass it to my half brother or not think I will try to get it restored and give it to him when he is older.

Dont take it apart, the criss cross lines underneath the glass are normally painted with radium paint, therefore could be radioactive.

Was your grandfather in the service? the compass was probably used in training aircraft for the BCATP, used in a variety of aircraft from Tigermoths to Hurricanes, in the box as you have roughly 40-100 dollars realistically( but worth what someone will pay right? there is about one every week on the bay), they are not super rare but are useful collectables, good luck Darrell
