If you saw the Jubilee flypast, what did you think of it?
I believe it consisted of
C17 Globemaster
Tristar escorted by two Tornados
E3 Sentry escorted by two Tornados
VC10 escorted by ??two Jaguars?? (didn’t see that as the phone rang)
Nimrod escorted by two Canberras
Bae 146 escorted by two Bae125’s
Eurofighter Typhoon
Concorde escorted by the Red Arrows
It was fine as far as it went, but for such a big occasion you’d have thought they might have rustled up a few more aircraft! For some reason, fifty springs to mind…
It was nice to see the Canberras making an appearance.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-06-02 AT 08:24 AM (GMT)]Prince Harry and William looked quite interested in the flypast…knowing William has had lessons on a Apache }>

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
The remembrance day flypast, when a Lancaster dropped poppies – that was nearly as good.
The Queen will not abdicate. It is verging on the unconstitutional to do that, because a Monarch is a Monarch for Life. Abdication really only occurs when a Monarch is unable to perform their duties (ie. marry American divorcees!!)

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-06-02 AT 11:31 PM (GMT)]Well it was about half the size of the one she got for getting to 25 years ! What can we predict if HM gets to 75 years on the throne four Typhoons ?? (and I’ll bet they will be flanked by a brace of Canberras) 😉
The heady days of the 60’s when the average flyby for the annual trooping the colour was 4 Vulcans and 2 Victors each flanked by a 12 to 16 Lightnings/Hunters/Buccs crusing gently past the bottom of my parents garden in Colchester on their way to London are long gone 🙁
The last really big flyby over the city was probably just after the Falklands, but then I guess transient dictators have always been able just to pick up the phone and order themselves bigger flypasts, than those afforded to reigning Monarchs by the MOD beancounters }>
You would have thought though that the day should have called for some sort of “maximum effort”, I’d lay a few quid that the service chiefs and crews were up for it…………. ruddy beancounters !!

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
the queen apparently promised she would carry out her reign to its full or something or other – therefore implying she will not abdicate. it is quite possible we will be doing this 25 years time. bit of a bummer about the ucav flypast though }>

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
Glenn,
I sincerely hope not! Now, before anyone accuses me of treason and sends me off to the Tower, I don’t wish the Queen any harm. I think after fifty years of serving the country she certainly deserves the opportunity to enjoy her retirement. Remember she is 76 years old now. I also think the impetus given to the Royal family during the recent celebrations may mean it’s time to capitalise on that. It is said that the first child of the King or Queen is groomed to take over the ‘reins’ as it were. And now, I think it’s time for Prince Charles to be given the oppotunity to take on the role he has been groomed for for the last fifty-four years.

If she is anything like her mother she will!

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
Considering how rare a combined type fly-past of that kind is, I thought it was great, well what I saw on TV down here in OZ anyway seemed brilliant.
Does anyone think the Queen will make it to her 75th year as a ruling Monarch?
Regards, Glenn.

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
Her silver jubilee had somthing like 300 hundred aircraft in the display- at the least! with 60 meteors in formation as one of the highlights.
Never the less, its representative of the RAF and I suppose thats what counts.

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
There were a couple of Jaguars escorting the VC-10…
I was surprised that there were no Harriers in the flypast…but I agree with comments re Canberras…was definitely nice to see them 🙂

RE: What did you think of the Jubilee flypast?
No Jags
No Harrier
No C-130
No Choppers
No Tucanos
1500ft!! Err I’d like 250!!
Spacings too big
Too many heavies, not enough big fighter formations.
But all said and done, it wasn’t bad. Nice to see the Canberras and (Shock horror) the elusive Eurofighter!
