I just saw this movie and I was very impressed. Good Acting, great battle scenes, overall a very believable portrayal off the legend. Ive heard people complain that the movie lacked tension, but I think they strived for realism instead of dramaticism, and it was the wise choice.

Of course, because they actually stay true to the literary text, unlike Troy.
OK. That’s funny. “True to literary text”. You do realize this is part of mythology, don’t you? This is one of the few instances where Hollywood taking license with its’ portrayal of recorded events can go unnoticed. Most people wouldn’t bother to complain about myths.
That being said, i was expecting a little more out of it after having read multiple books on the Trojan War and bunches of Greek & Roman mythology. Disappointed in Achilles’ “victory lap” (that could’ve been played out). And nowhere have i read that Achilles makes it to the Trojan Horse. That and i also have never read that Ajax goes out the way he did (albeit that way was quite a sight better than literature does for him).

I would say it looked like your typical one horse town…
A river flows through it?

Typical hollywood, rip off a story from a dead writer so you don’t have to worry about paying that writer or getting sued by them. ๐
It was an OK movie.

after holding and holding I had to leave the Theatre and go to the P**sroom, about 20 Minutes from the end. Small bladder, its in the family… King Jester
Could be a prostate problem too… ๐ ๐
Sorry, just joking… This kind of p*ss-problem happened with me before. :p
Regarding the movie: good. One has to take into account the heavy burden of putting such a classic into cinema format. It was certain many people would complain it was not accurate, but IMHO the essence was there. Even Mr. Pitt was OK. Deleting those God/Godess intrigues was perfect.
But the best scene was with the Trojan King talking to Achilles about Hector. That irish / briton guy is really good (Peter O’Toole).

Nice to see local Melbourne boy Eric Bana doing so well

You need to do some bladder exercises my man. Go drink a gallon of water, and hold it through War and Peace.

Yeah I can already imagine some Roman editor saying in 57 AD: “I’m not going to publish this new-wave crap you just wrote. ” ๐
I hope they had ! ๐

And don’t forget the Aeneis, which was written by Vergilius in the first century. Emperor August wanted to create a connection between the Romans and the Trojans. In the end of the movie you see the “hero” Aeneis which is going to create the first Roman settelement Alba Longa.
And there’s also Livius’ Ad urbe condita.
Yes, ok, BUT that isn’t part of the original story… Rather a mix of the 2 original books + some roman fiction ๐

PII: there were 2 books: The first is the Illiad, which, IIRC, contained the birth of Pรขris, the “fight” between the gods which would bring the fate of troy, the kidnapping of Helen, the Greek travelling to Troy, and finally the 10 years of war. Apparently a very boring siege for most of it, and the final Battle.
The second book, the Odyssea, was about Ulysses going home, crossing the whole %Mediterranean sea (You can say that he went through Crete, then in Carthage (Lybia), Sicily, Possibly southern France (Marseille), and finally back to western Greece. That too was a curse set by Poseidon.
I could be wrong with some details, as I read the books some 10 years ago…

The script wasn’t the greatest, especially with Menalaus, Agamemmnon, etc.. the acting varied fair to good depending on character.. but I found Bana to be pretty good as Hector.
As for accuracy.. well I really had strong doubts that the decade long Iliad could be summarized into one hours, especially since the Trojan wars in most versions, lasted for years and had numerous “in-between” elements. However for a nearly 3 hour movie it was quite entertaining, especially the fights.

Ilyias
I thought the book was entitled the Iliad?
More on topic…personally I thought it was a good movie, but I didn’t think Brad Pitt was really at his best. He seemed to do a lot of “posing”, so to speak. Don’t get me wrong he did okay for the most part, but I didn’t think his acting was just out of this world.

Who, Brad Pitt, or Eric Bana
I’m pretty sure she meant Agamemnon. And I will have to agree with her ๐ฎ
besides.. Brad Pitt is not handsome enough to be Greek.. just go take a look at Icarus or Fantasma and you’ll get my drift..
