Trying to write a very delayed report on a Corsair dig. Here is the first of couple of unknown items. This is a really obvious component, even scribed into the old Airfix model. The line of three is just behind the cowling gills under the nose. Any ideas?

Thanks Bograt, that makes perfect sense. Mission accomplished.

They are anti-backfire valves for the updraft carburetor (or updraught carburettor on Royal Navy models…..)

God Almighty, it’s obvious! American plane, therefore: one cigar dispenser, one black cawfee dispenser, and one hot air outlet.

Perhaps the disks with the central bolts are blanks if a different type of carb is used, but I’m not sure where an air filter would have fitted…

Are there wire connections; some sort of heating element or de-icer maybe?

Thanks Al and creaking door. Definately looks to do with the carb given the three throats. The back of the piece is closed so nothing appears to go in or out. Perhaps some sort of damper? First thought, and confidently identified to anyone who would listen, was a warning horn. Then we found another one.

Didn’t the Corsair and the Shackleton use a Bendix PR-58 carb with three circular intakes?

Looks like an alloy casing with a moveable round piston in it? Is it spring loaded inside?
Could it be some sort of valve to let air in or out of the induction system; some sort of protection from over-pressure or backfiring?

Isn’t it where the carburetor is attached to the airframe?

Attachments for a bomb rack?

I had some useful contacts when dealing with the Corsairs in Lake Sebago.
