What do we want to see at RIAT 05?

………incidentally, has the F-14 Tomcat ever attended? Surely with retirement next year we should get to see one?

Sadly, I’m not. I’ve known AF as long as I’ve known you – almost to the day in fact. He’s one of the few people that have seen me without my overalls on.

I remember it well, again and again and again……………….

What an absolutely superb idea! It’s a deal. I get a good room, you have to wear a skirt at an airshow. That would be worth all the years of grief I would get afterwards. Done.

It would be great to see a ‘trainer aircraft’ section – British, Irish, French, Belgian, Dutch etc. etc.

Irish Air Corps PC-9M’s attended a ‘Trainer Meet’ in Belgium (or was it Holland?) last year, but it was not open to the public. Saw some pics and it looked great !

It would be a bit different to the usual F-16’s, etc….

my 2 cents.

They did. VF-301 from Oct. 1984 to 11 Sept. 1994, and VF-302 from April 1985 – 11 Sept. 1994.

Ken, those urinals you mention work perfectly, and far better than those two-feet high gutters you often find at music festivals – even though those gutters are a bit more sociable (i had a pee next to the Cure’s Robert Smith at last years Werchter festival). But if you guys are already uncomfortable of rolling off your material out in the open, i think that a lot of water has to flow down the Thames before your women will be ready to accept the P-mate (or plastuit), yet another brilliant Dutch invention 🙂

What !!!!

Women standing up for a pee !!!

It will be the end of civilisation as we know it !!

They’ll be wanting the vote next !!! 😀

What on earth makes you think that the F-14 will be appearing with the reserves? They have never operated F-14’s and never will.

They did. VF-301 from Oct. 1984 to 11 Sept. 1994, and VF-302 from April 1985 – 11 Sept. 1994.

Airshows seem to be the only events where the men Q2P and the women don’t. Hurrah!

I remember one year at RIAT – maybe about 5 years ago….

They introduced a continental type toilet for the men.

It looked like a giant bellabout 15 feet in height – with lots of ‘flutes’ around the outside where the urinal was.

Imagine one of those glass lemon squeezers and you will get the picture.

It was completely exposed to the elements – there was no entrance, no screens, nothing.

You went up to it, faced inwards to the urinal and did what a man has to do…

Your back was completely exposed to the crowd – but as the ‘flutes’ came around to your sides, they could see nothing anyway.

I thought it was a great idea – simple, no nonsense toilets. They were so unusual that people were photographing them and crowds gathered to watch !!!

Anyone else remember them – or used them ??

But they only lasted for that show – they weren’t there the next year.

I suppose it was the great British toilet hangup – they were not very popular.

So we went back to queuing…..

AF: Wear a skirt next time.
What do I want to see? It would be great to have the groundcrew accommodation not so far from the airfield!

You could always share my room, that way you could lend me a skirt……………………
