I pack ham and cheese or egg mayo sandwiches, a large packet of cheesy puffs, either a flask of cold juice or tea, and maybe a bit of chocolate.
If I am flush, I buy some chips sometime during the day, and if I am not driving and the day is warm, I buy a pint of two of lager from the beer tent.
That is what I eat and drink at airshows.

Pint of Avgas, Frecce Tricolori smoked sandwich washed down by a half of propwash!
If you eat it too quickly, you get a dose of afterburner!

Peter, LOL, I’m not tight, I just like picking up tons of ‘picnic’ stuff for next to nothing! It’s the only way to cope with your average UK airshow weather- stuff yourself silly!!!Anyway, I’m going to sneak into Ashley’s airshow hamper next time-smoked salmon! For an airshow!!!
I don’t want to go to the same airshows as you – ever. I’ve had three damp airshows in 14 years, in fact I’ve only had 4 in all the years I’ve been going to airshows and that’s a long time

You British folk eat some weird stuff at airshows…thank god. Loved the food at Old Warden, very unconventional compared to the American airshow food…funnel cakes, pancakes at early morning breakfast (with sausage and coffee)…love the bratwurst at American shows…had pizza delivered to the A-26 ‘Feeding Frenzy’ once at Midland post show, a great time with those folks (Jeff Ethell included, hell of a guy)…usually pack a cooler with lots of soda in it and some ‘Lunchables’ in it, pre packaged crakers and meat with mayo or mustard, you make little sandwiches out of them…cold fried chicken is good too. Nothing beats a pint from the on site pub at Duxford after a day’s airshowing, and i particularly liked the mint marinated Lamb at the Plough near Duxford post show one time.

Yes i make my choice , i bring my own food.I wonder how much more business they would do if they made their food a better price and quality,i wonder if that would make even more than they get now.

Maybe some of the show operators and vendors OUGHT TO READ THESE,RIPOFF RIPOFF RIPOFF U.K
Unfortunately, I don’t think anything will be done to improve the rip-off mentality at UK airshows. It’s all about market forces, I suppose. There’s always huge queues at the burger vans and the like. People are still willing to pay those prices. 🙁
For me, a few sarnies, crisps and choccies usually do the trick.

Paul

I eat as little as possible at UK airshows as it is usually so rotten and overpriced.

I am lucky. I have a great mother. She prepares a superb cold salad with numerous ingredients. Its always a suprise to see what she has prepared for me. A good meal is always nice! No dougnuts for me!;)
Now I do want to thank my mother for all the nice suprises during dinertime at the airshows: THANKS mom!

Lots of water, as you usually drink one or two during briefing. Also, I take a bottle with me in the cockpit at shows like Oshkosh as you tend to sit on the ramp for 30+ minutes waiting to take off. Then you orbit for another 30 minutes waiting to make one pass.
Is this really worth it???
That’s why I like the smaller shows, you get to actually talk to people and not spend half the day briefing to make one pass.

Ah Airshow food,
Sometime back when we were flying are 25 around we build in the waist position a nice cooler that could hold a quarter barrel rather nicely. We rigged a tap to the outside of the rear hatch and hook up a aux-pump to do all the pumping.
The FAA really did’nt like this to much,I don’t know why they were always over after the flying was done for a cold one.
As for food I must say the Military show have a great many taste for all from Vegian to Burgers and Chicken.
Myself I like to pack a lite bag of nuts and plenty of water.

RE: Beer preference and advanced photographic technique
As I take a lot of Airshow photographs, using your technique will give me a great excuse to drink a lot more beer in the evenings while looking at them. Thank you very much!

RE: Beer preference and advanced photographic technique
As the very few photographs I take at airshows all come out blurred anyway I find a couple of pints of Adnams Broadside makes them look a lot better.
I think.
