I’d have to say this looks pretty dodgy but is most probably real, if you were goping to dream up or create a photo you’d choose something a little better.
Using some of the explanations from above but I can’t see who wrote them while typing this!

Anyway, the aircraft is landing on a brand new runway, the runway being higher up which is why you see no land before the sea (Madeira is famous for this as mentioned by someone else above). Also the photo has been taken kind of into the sun, the sun isn’t perfectly behind the camera, which is why you get the reflections from the sea and no horizon.
I’d guess this was real but just a bad scan.

Nope,

That plane looks real. There are lots of programs which allow you to cut very finly around an image (like a plane or say a piece of fuit) and then transplant the image onto another image!

There is no Flight Sim or whtever that could generate a plane like that even with the world best hardware and software. it is too real to be done by someone. I say its a real a/c with fake surroundings

If someone finds a picture with that plan at that angle. thats wherethe person got it from!

Well just to add my 2p to the argument, I am familiar with the type and and the location (I am off there again next Monday). I think it is a genuine photo that has been cleaned with some sort of program, hence the nosewheel area shading. It isn’t taking off it is in the start of the landing flare. This can be proven by the fact that the aircraft is overflying runway markings indicating the imminent arrival of the expected touchdown point. The reason the runway looks ’tilted’ is only because the picture is not taken at 90 degrees to the runway.
Horizon, not many days are clear enough to have a well defined horizon.

Saab even if its a little over the sea a runway is never tilted… it might be a little high but never tilted.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-09-02 AT 03:33 PM (GMT)]I’m not saying if I think its fake or not,but Madiera’s airport runway was extended so larger aircraft could land on it.The bottom end is built on stilts and is right next to the sea.Could that have something to do with what the picture looks like?I must admit it is poor quality.

Lets see if I can shed some light on this problem.

1) The clouds and see look like they were done in a programme called Byrce, it is VERY good for making landscape scenes and sky scens and has a VERY good cloud engine.

2) The runway and the aircraft look as if they were done in 3D Studio Max then combined with the background.

I would also like to know how this is done, if its not using the above method. Maybe one of the 3d modlers from AFM forum could shed some light maybe.

Regardless of what it is – it’s convincing. Nobody seems to know quite how it’s been done.

Like Kabir said, it’s not too cloudy, so there should be a shadow. It is quite baffling the way that the sky is really bright and the actual runway is really quite dark. There should be some light being shed from the sky.

Does Flight Simulator 2002 look that good? Wow!!

It is definitely FS2002 but the clouds may have been grafted later with Photoshop. Good Work though!

The AoA looks completely wrong to me. I would presume it is a ‘poor quality’ photoshop job.
