Hope she’s staying in the UK. I’ve always had a soft spot for that one, for some reason.

Loving this Dibbsy shot of her, up close and personal….

Thanks to Mark12 for the full detail on the use of the Griffon 67 in the Spitfire.

And as Daz posted a picture of SM845 and the MK.XVIII gets a mention, I note it is possibly on to pastures new.

(It’s been showing as ‘Pending’ on the Platinum Fighters website for the last couple of weeks).

Precisely, according to the Rolls Royce Aero Service Bulletin No. 3 of June 1950 the Griffon 67 was fitted to Spitfire F.XIV, F.XVIII, PR.XIV & PR.XVIII.

Variation from basic was a reduction Gear ratio of 0.510 and modification to suit + 25 lb boost.

89 Spitfires so fitted can be identified. They are of course in part FR examples.

Some XIV also according to ‘British Piston Aero-Engines and their Aircraft’ which also states only 150 of that mark of engine were made (in 1945).

Some variants of the MK.XVIII, usually the FR.XVIII.
