In our quest to move Buccaneer XX889 from Staverton, we have been constantly thwarted by various problems, one being a lack of communication from transport companies.
So this begs my thread title, what ever happened to Downbird UK?
I have done a few searches through the big search engines but have failed to find any info on their demise.

Buccsociety,
I know it does not directly answer your Downbird question, but another company that could help is Hutchinson Engineering Services, Weston Nr Newark [tel: 01636 821648].
They have moved various items for Newark [Sea Harrier, Bulldog, Viggen]; Sea Harrier for Midland and various other Sea Harriers for a company off A1 south of Grantham.
From published pictures of Newark’s Viggen move Hutchinson seem to have their own escort vehicles, which may help with your wide-load permissions.

Colin Allen was definately one of the main people involved in Downbird UK.
They moved a number of aircraft in the 1990’s including the Sea Vixen at Charlwood and the Gannet that is now at Membury but used to be in Cirencester. Colin also owned a number of aircraft that were at tatenhill.

Is this the company connected to Colin Allen?
He owned some JPs at Tatenhill, but had sold them all in the late 90s.
Since them he’s slipped off the radar.
I could not tell you Mark, but somethings bound to turn up about DB UK before long, you know my contacts.
Tangmere, just to let you know, the Woking Bucc, XX895 was removed by Barry Parkhouse and G & D Aviation, and was believed to have been sectioned before being transported, thanks for your help.

Guys, I think we are missing the point of the thread, we are not looking for anyone to move the Bucc, that has been sorted, what I am trying find out is what happened Downbird UK as a matter of interest.

Have you contacted Dave Webber, who helped move XW544 to Bruntingthorpe?

Tangmere, I know both Nev and Barry very well, myself and Dave Thomas have been undertaking Nev’s Bucc moves over the last few years, unfortunately Nev is recovering from an operation and is likely to be sidelined for the foreseeable future, Barry does not have a rig big enough to transport the Bucc.
A suitable transport company has been found, just wanted to know more on DB UK.

Try getting in touch with Nev Martin. He may point you in the right direction. Or Barry Parkhouse at Parkhouse Aviation may still be in business? (No recommendation intended or implied, though! 😉 Andy Saunders
