What facility would you most like to visit?

Of the many excellent museums, collections and private facilities, where would you like to be shown behind the scenes?

How would you like to spend that visit?

  • Personal guided tour
  • Group tour
  • General open day

What facilities would you like laid on?

  • Food and drink
  • flying display
  • meet the pilots
  • histories of the a/c
  • meet the restorers
  • meet the engineers

How much would you be prepared to pay to visit your chosen venue with your selected format and facilities?

As a guide, the HFL/ARC open day at Duxford in June 2004 provided an airshow, lunch, restoration facilities tour, WWII veterans, experts to talk to and restoration projects to view and discuss. 240 people attended and had a superb day.The event lasted about 5 hours and cost £55.

YAK 11 – the Tempest is now on her legs and at Gamston fully painted. She is awaiting a pair of magnetos and she isn’t far off flight.
As for the ‘German’ aircraft in Norfolk – they are pretty well documented in the press as the ex WOGB FW-190 and the ex PoF Me262.

I’d like to have a tour of the Aero Vintage workshops in Sussex, to see the ‘new’ Hawker biplanes, rumoured to be very close to completion. Also a look at the various ‘secret’ german projects being worked on in Norfolk. Rumoured to be a Bf110??

Remember Jim’ll Fix It

If you don’t talk happy,
and you never have a dream,
then you’ll nev..er have a dre..a..m c.o..m.e t.r.u….e.

Captain Sensible, Happy Talk, courtesy of South Pacific.

But more to the point, it makes it very difficult to lay on events if the punters don’t say what they want.

The more info we get about likes and dislikes the better chance we have of arranging a Forum thingy with bells and whistles to suit your acutely honed tastes.

It’s a bit like putting a tooth under your pillow, if you don’t do it, the tooth fairly won’t bring you a sixpence. ( its probably a fiver for today’s kids).

A few good ideas already. I especially like the idea of a jets day etc.

Especially for Mike J, all events should be entry by rosette without exception. Are you listening Andrew and Darren 😮 shame on you.

Ah now with £2bn I might just be able to afford an aicraft or two.

As for the facility I’d like to visit, I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have met a number of people involved in the Warbird industry and have had the chance to look aroung a number of facilities, however I guess in the UK it would be the chance to take a look at the IL10 & Tempest rebuilds in the UK.

Can we all play too? Why only £20m? Why not £200m? Or while we’re at it, £2bn?

Mike
you need to double this–make 4bn!!
We could call it the Republic of East Anglia Air Force. You get to pick what we buy first!
Cheers
Andy 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

I could easily spend £20m per annum over the next 10 years and would still need more cash. If you like I will write down what I think should be spent and on what… What this space…

So could I but most of it would go on women and fast cars, but boy I’d have a good time!!!! 😀 😮 😀

I notice from TFC’s website that they are hosting an evening for Friends of TFC to meet the pilots and engineers, not expensive either. I see they have also included families in the invitation.

I remember they did this in the early 1990’s, inviting Friends to the Press day before one of the summer displays.

Thet haven’t given a date yet, hope it happens.

I would like to visit the offices of the Heritage Lottery Fund – making a complete nuisance of myself until the buggers give more cash to Britain’s cash starved aviation heritage movement. Either that or Cosford’s restoration centre (storeroom).

I would like to spend a whole week with the BBMF. Just like a fly on the wall.

The work these servicemen/women do is just fantastic & all in their own time too, what dedication.

The price to pay on top of my subscription, what it takes.

Just hope the weather’s O.K. for next week at the members day.

B.P. 😀 😀 😀

I would like a behind the scene’s day with one of the jet operators ( or all of them 😀 ) . The day would start with a guided tour of the operation and the aircraft, including information on maintenance and what is required. Then several talks from people involved with the operation – MD, maintenance chief, pilot etc. Followed by some brief refreshments and then a walk out onto the flightline to be talked through the preparation of an aircraft for flight while they do it – then a display by one or two aircraft. That to me would be better than most air displays. I would pay 30-60 pound for that.

I’d love a private tour of Abingdon and Stanton Harcourt with some ex Whitley pilots. I’d pay just about anything!

I would like a personal guided tour of any facility with access to the aircraft while my legs are still good enough to get me in and out. The Lancaster at Elvington was, I have to say, a dream come true for me. (Thanks Robbo) I would also like to meet veterans and talk to anyone connected with the aircraft I am looking at.

Regards,
