Picked this up yesterday, and the sight last weekend. Is it a T7 or something else? The speedo is wrong, (order in with Bruce already) and what should go bottom left? the position indicator looks wrong. Help much appreciated. I need to learn about Meteors…

Here is the very nearly finished T7 panel, although it would look nicer with a spade grip! The only missing panel bit is a light for the central bracket, and some better quality woodwork to hold it all together. Shelf space precludes anything to the sides, unfortunately. Thanks for all the advice!

Cheers Anon, all turned out nice in the end. A small UC indicator is on it’s way from the ebay machine as we speak. Newark is a bit far for twice in a year!

Meteor panel
Looking good, Ian. It’s nice to get the right part in the right hole isn’t it:D
Have a look for an u/c ind at Newark in three week’s time. I got three there two years ago – at a good price too.

Very nearly done, with some poor quality wood bodging to hold it together. Thanks for the bits Bruce, the DI looks excellent. Everyone’s advice much appreciated. 🙂

Not to me, certainly! I’ll make an offer, mind:)

Crikey, I need to go and put my hands on the ones I have!

I would think that would come close to covering the gyro cost.
Looks like you’ve already covered the cost of this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAF-Aircraft-compass-Directional-Gyro-Gloster-Meteor-/130564061614?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item1e663979ae;)
Smaller correct U/C indicator on there at the mo aswel.

Not massively expanding, although the window did pop out of my shed due to a surfeit of Spitfire a while back. The Sea Vixen panel has made just enough progress not to stop, but if I do reach a dead end I will think of you Pagen!

Also, the ‘wrong’ gauge in the UC hole is a combined trim indicator for a Lightning, which may improve the financial situation further.
I would think that would come close to covering the gyro cost.
Sounds like you’re expanding your collection massively. If your plans with Vixen facia panel come to nowt, do let me know, as mine is cracked.

The Mk.2 DI’s do come up quite often and are, as far as I know, Meteor specific, so there isn’t the market for them.
Yes, Hooton has been a thorn in my side for nigh-on 15 years. You haven’t heard half, nor the last, of it, either. There’s more to come.
Thanks for your commiz anyhow.

Oh Behave. That’s good news Pagen, cheap is the way forward. That said I’ve just failed to buy a stick off a Kiowa so my finances are not as stretched as Feared. Also, the ‘wrong’ gauge in the UC hole is a combined trim indicator for a Lightning, which may improve the financial situation further. On the smut front Anon, just worked my through the sorry Hooton Park thread. You really have been royally bug***d. Many commiserations.

It’s getting like ‘Carry On’ here!:D
I’ll stay on the lookout for a Mk2 though, to avoid any cutting. Having survived this long it seems a shame to take a hacksaw to it now!
Ian , I seem to remember that those Mk2s aren’t difficult to find or particularly expensive, in fact the U/C indicator cost me more than the direction gyros that I saw advertised, mine had a cracked face but was original to the panel, so I kept it in place.

Flippin’ ‘eck, pagen, you’re just as bad;)

Thanks Terry, splendid illustration. I’ll stay on the lookout for a Mk2 though, to avoid any cutting. Having survived this long it seems a shame to take a hacksaw to it now!

DI Mk2 and/or G4F Gyro Compass
Either could be fitted dependant upon aircraft modification state probably. Here is a leaflet with panel cut out details for the mk2 and a sketch of the G4F panel cut out too. Dimensions are imperial not metric of course!

Or me…
….but, it’s a nice panel and if it means a deal!

ian_, I’m still not reassured.

I think that came out wrong, Anon! Still, any hole (filled) is a goal. Even your older, larger hole Pagen. Hopefully, and more sensibly, a large UC indicator will appear. Otherwise I’ll have to make up a mounting plate. Nice photo, although the rear seat panel reminds me of an aeronautical gravestone…

ian_, After the 28th? Is that in lieu of cash?
I’ve seen that too, pagen. Seemed to happen a lot on Meteor panels. They sometimes did it with the turn and slip too.
