A few years ago when Amjet were operating the Gannet T5 in the USA they also had i believe a Sea Venom FAW 21 / 22 under restoration to fly. Anyone know where it went and if it is still under rebuild?

I am sorry. I went over my 2008 collection… and I could only find this.
Most of his collection is outside and there is quite a bit.
This aircraft was in the back of the hanger, and I had only asked permission to take photos from outside the hanger.
I may go back there this summer. If so, I will ask permission and try to get better photos of this aircraft up close.

Being an RAN aircraft I wonder why she is in RN colours??
The “Z” on the tail was the deck code for HMS Albion during the late 50s before it changed to “A” around 1960. The Pheonix is of course 809 squadron RN.
Paul.

Thanks again Dave.
The coating of dust on it sat in the hangar probably tells its own story of a period of inactivity.

Thanks, as i thought then, ex RAN. Be great to hear and see more of it in the future, especially considering like the RNHF Sea Hawk it is / was the sole airworthy example of its type.
Anyone know of any other hooked Venoms that are being restored to fly?

It is an ex-Australian Aircraft (N4-944) as was exported to the USA in 1971
It is still in Oregon with Merle Maine here is a link to last years airshow

There are also a couple of photos of the aircraft in 2008 on this set

It is worth flicking through the set as he has a quite incredible collection
I believe it was airworthy when it went to Merle

Thanks Dave. Any idea if it was airworthy when sold, and what the price was that it went for?
Also as it is an FAW.53 then i presume its an ex RAN machine?
By: Thunderbird167 - 13th February 2011 at 09:46
It was sold via Courtesy Aircraft Sales in 2000 as is reported by Demibbed to be at Ontario Municipal Airport in Oregon
Here is a photograph of it at Ontario in 2006

Thanks. Any idea how long ago it flew, as i don’t recall hearing about a Sea Venom taking to the air again?!

WZ944 was completed to flying status, and certainly flew for a while with a new owner.
No idea where it is now.

Newforest – Although i realise they have/had examples of both i was referring to the Venom.
tbyguy – Thanks for that, but sadly i cannot remember what its identity was.
I seem to recall a photo of it included in a magazine article about Amjets operations, and given the companys ability it seemed at the time the best chance of getting one flying again.

Do you mean WZ944 ?
http://www.warbirdregistry.org/jetregistry/venomregistry/venom-wz944.html
Paper trail died on this a few years ago. Last buyer on FAA registry was Merle Maine Enterprises of Ontario, Oregon.
