At the Great Warbirds air display at West Malling during the 1980’s there was an FW190 replica.. possibly 1/2 scale, built by Mike Searle at Elstree and powered by a 100hp Continental engine. I believe the pilot was a Jonathan Lipton, who according to the video of the show was also known as ‘pranger Lipton’, after forgetting to lower the undercarriage on one occasion.
What i would like to know is what happened to it, and its pilot.?

I vaguely remember seeing a 5/8 scale Mustang replica at the Shoreham Airshow in the late 70s to mid 80s, where it was referred to a as a “Gnatsum” (Mustang Backwards)
It’s actually 75% scale.
I think one has just joined the UK register, having spent some years in France.

I can’t remember for the life of me if it’s a Jurca or a one-off design.
Terry,s 80% scale Fw190 is a 100% one off home designed and homebuilt aircraft.

FW 190 replica in Switzerland
There is still HB-YEL just down the road from me at La Côte ( LSGP) (NDB GLA).
My photo with it under wraps last summer, and a nice one with resident Bücker HB-UUL and visitor An2 (photo thanks to Jean Voegelin, Avianna Antonov Club).

Thinking about it (having just viewed the other thread relating to this auction), I unearthed some photos of the aircraft when it was on display at East Fortune some years back – will see if I can scan them (and all the others!) in sometime…

I suspect its one of the Jurca replica’s, you can even have a 1-1 scale.

The full-scale ‘190 looks nice, though. Can imagine what the performance is like given the lighter weight (1200hp engine) – especially if the Allison-engined Spitfire is anything to go by!

As soon as you said “not a small scale”, I knew which one it was! 😉
It’s an evil-looking brute, as well! I’m guessing around the 80% scale mark, in keeping with the others.

Told you so! :diablo:
Bidding for a rare German fighter plane failed to take off the ground.
Bids for the World War II replica were expected to reach the heights of £25,000 at Dominic Winter Book Auctions in South Cerney yesterday but stuttered short when only £18,500 was offered.
The reserve for the half-scale Focke-Wulf Fw 190 – arguably the most notorious single-engine fighter plane used by the Luftwaffe – was £20,000.
It featured Luftwaffe colours and markings and is an exact representation of the aircraft flown by Major “Sepp” Wurmheller.
It is one of only two of its kind in the world and could have actually been flown off, had someone bought it.
Major Wurmheller was a notorious fighter ace who claimed more than 90 victories over the Allies and was killed in action near Alencon in 1944.
The aircraft has full documentation, including a current Permit Flight Release Certificate.
Good reporting – “…one of only two of its kind in the world…”
