Wasn’t the Meteor a converted Merlin, to be used in armoured vehicles ?
Did a later “Beast” have an actual Merlin ?
The Meteor had about 80% commonality with the Merlin and RR swapped the factory with Bristol for their ‘jet jobbies’.

I seem to remember, way back in the fifties/sixties, the βBrighton Runβ along the sea front, a chassis with a merlin on it that went like stink. Put my Panther 600 sloper to shame!!

It’s a Rolls Royve Meteor, not a Merlin π
Well no. It was a Rolls Royce Meteor, which might go some way to explain why I went to the trouble of putting the apostrophes around ‘Merlin’ in the thread title? π

Here’s another one with a Meteor engine that’s not quite as ugly. Beautiful teak boat tail, and it sounds great.

It’s a Rolls Royve Meteor, not a Merlin π I used to work with the chap who built it, it’s an incredible thing to behold, but is pretty pointless really π

Remember that using aero-engines in specials wasn’t unheard of in the post WWI days.

I think that this must have been the same chap who would, on occasion, run this beast up and down the runway at Biggin.

I remember a chap by the name of John Dodd doing something similar back in the early 70’s (?)
It looked like a super sized estate car with a Rolls Royce Merlin, complete with RR radiator etc.
He was taken to court over the use of the RR radiator. So he took it to Spain for a while.
Bringing it back with a different front end.
