Hi i was wondering what happened to the 777 that crashed at heathrow in jan 08 its still there all white whats the plan for it??? also what has happened to the concorde that was sitting at the ba maintenance at heathrow it was sitting outside but now has gone somewhere where ?

The concorde had to be moved from its old location to BA’s maintence area due to the A380 being to large to pass and would have hit it. As for the 777, it has been scapped as it was unreapairable.

I wonder if Spar will display some of those cans of 7up in their new window… ? 😉

It looked like the main gear Pintle had put a window in the Spar.

The photo I linked to shows the cockpit section having been cleanly cut off before the rest of the airframe was scrapped. Perhaps it has indeed gone for crew training modification?
They certainly would have salvaged all the parts from it. 1/3rd the cost of an airliner is the Cockpit kit.

I remember it being reported at the time that the aircraft had been completely trashed and was a write-off. Not looking too bad from a distance, it must have sustained severe damage to the airframe
That’s a shame. I wonder how old it was. Not new, I hope.
In the crash thread I said it was junk, the rear Spar had snapped, it looked like the main gear Pintle had put a window in the Spar and the main fuse attachments had also gone. May as well build a new platform than to rebuild the wing primaries and re-align all the T/e hinge points etc. In manufacturing terms, an aeroplane is wings (Including empennage), cockpit and a propulsion system. The rest is just a tube to put talking baggage in.

somebody I know who works for BA said it had been scrapped as the airframe damage made it unrepairable, even though it looked ok

Definitely all gone. I have a contact at Heathrow and he confirmed the airframe was completely chopped up a couple of months ago.
Surprising that even the cockpit section went as it might have been of use as a ground trainer but there you go.

G-YMMM first registered: 31/05/2001
As near as makes no difference, 7 years old at the time of the incident.
G-YMMM in the backgound, devoid of cockpit section and rear tail cone and vertical tail

It’s probably going to be transformed from a single 777 into many 7up cans 😀
That sounds interesting.

I thought it had already been scrapped? I havent seen it for a while now but when I was at LHR earlier this year there was only a small portion of the fuselage still there, I even took a pic of it. However I was at Heathrow 2 weeks ago and again 2 days ago and it wasnt there.
