No one is suggesting he got things wrong, least of all me – that is not what we are discussing here. I was merely observing that in the vast scheme of history in the 20s and 30s Churchill embraced far more depth and experience than did Harry Patch. I did not mention Harry Patch originally but his words were introduced in another post in justification for not fighting wars.

Yes Churchill was the leader we needed but he was not above very costly(in lives) mistakes.

With no disrespect to an honourable soldier – he has dismissed 3 decades of complex and dangerous European history to a few simplistic words. Fortunately Churchill knew more about European history than Harry Patch.

I served during the “troubles” in the 1970’s my friends had sons who served in Gulf War1 and one has a son who is now in Afghanistan. I wonder where his son will serve?

If we fail in Libya, The following will happen we will have lost more people who did not need to die, Spent more money we did not have,left a country more distablised then it was before and still not achieved the USA aim of controling the oil there.

Another misguided miltary adventure with no apparent end in sight. The politicians sadly never learn.
Then again somebody needs to protect all that capital investment that companies made. We can’t let money come to any harm can we?
