What instrument do you play

Just wondering what musical instruments any of you can play.

I can play guitar a little, I quite good on the bass and I can play drums too, well until my arms get tired.

Over to you.

Hey remember this topic?

Thought I’d drag it up again to show my new baby. A Fender USA Precision bass along with my Ashdown EB15-180 amp that I bought last summer.

Neal, that USA Precision looks way nice with a maple fretboard.

I’ve just bought my 13th Guitar (basses included) & it’s way different from all the rest……

It’s an Ovation Legend L.777 (USA) & totally unique (for me).

The build quality & playability astounds me, it’s that good.

Till now, I’ve only been buying & collecting certain axes (mainly electric) as, being Left-Handed, the choices/options are comparitively limited.

I bought a new, Aged Cherry ‘burst Ash Deluxe (USA – maple fret), this time last year, (my fourth USA ‘Corona’ Stratocaster, all different colours & spec’s)….. as I still think USA Corona built Stratocasters are the best mix of sound/build-quality/playability & future investment potential.

In 2000, I traded in my CBS era Telecaster, which I’d bought new in Nov ’78, as a teenager ….. (cost more that my 1st car – Sunbeam Rapier!!!!).

I got £ 500 trade-in against a brand new ’99 Olympic White American Standard (my others are the newer ‘Am series’).
He may have wanted to rip my arm off for the Tele’, but at the time, I preferred my Yam Pacifica, to the Tele’, so the ’99 Strat felt in a different league.

Just over two & half years ago, I bought a beautiful secondhand 1982 Gibson Les Paul Custom, which I’d thought as a left-hander, I’d never own due to limited availability & prices, but I picked this one up via an internet dealer based near Southend.

I was so impressed with the L.P. & his service, that I later bought my Jap Fender ’62 Re-issue Jazz Bass from him (in a snazzy ‘Sea-Foam Green’).
Also collared a brand new Black Mexican Jazz Bass for a steal (£ 250) from a really good Norfolk-based E-bay trader, which I picked up from his house.

Though the wife moans I’ve got too many, she understands how difficult it is to come by good quality L/H guitars, so when G.A.S. strikes, the habit gets fed:diablo:

I own a base guitar but don’t play it much. Not at all since some fellow guitarist “took” my jack in a party at my basement. Would prefer to go back to acoustic someday. Long ago, used to play the flute. I also fart sometimes. 😀

Well my array of instrumentation includes my Fender Precision Bass (early 90’s Japanese 4 string) in Tobacco Sunburst with tortoise shell plate. My Fender Jazz (early 2000’s Mexican 5 string) in Lake Placid blue and white plate…

Fender Bassman 135 valve amp and matching cabinet, circa 1974 Fullarton California.

An Epiphone/Gibson Les Paul ‘Gold Top’, a cheap clone of a Gibson J-200 acoustic six string and an Eko acoustic six string (formerly my dad’s gigging gear)

Oh and a rarther cheap but reliable Hohner Spanish classical from the Argos catalogue !

I’ve mastered the fingering of the chords, yet it still takes an hour or two going between each, it really is painstaking to listen to (even for myself). Any tips?

Then you haven’t mastered the fingering. 🙂 Practice is the only way, and I mean practice. I’m not talking the odd hour here and there, I mean anything between two and eight hours a day, or maybe more, every day. Even many of what are considered to be the worlds greatest players will never say they’ve truely ‘mastered’ any aspect of music, except perhaps for Jaco Pastorius who would introduce himself to new acquaintances as the world’s greatest bass player. Then again, he had every right to! Stick with it though! 🙂

Baby No.1 for me is still Baby No.1. Every gig I play, my beautiful G&L L2500 is with me, generally with my Spector Performer 5 string or my Sting Signature Precision not too far away.

I’ve played a few in my time all 15 and a half years of it.

Flirted with the flute on numerous occasions between 10 and 13.
Since the grand old age of 7 until 12/13 I played the violin, loved it until other time pressures meant lessons were intruding into time I needed to be spending on school work.
After this I played Clarinet between the ages of 12-14 as I preferred it over the Violin, but again lessons took up to much time and lessons became a drag.
Nowadays I’m teaching myself guitar, a number of months later I’m just as good as when I started. I’ve mastered the fingering of the chords, yet it still takes an hour or two going between each, it really is painstaking to listen to (even for myself). Any tips?

I play guitar very well, played in a couple of bands in the past but
would rather play solo or duet, too much arguing in a band.

Heres my two guitars, a Hohner hollow bodied Jazz and a Simon/Patrick
electro-accoustic.
Big pic, Jazz guitar with PA system

Ah, a music related thread 🙂

As some of you already know, I’m a sound engineer and bass player, so when I’m not behind some random mixing desk (in this case a 48 channel Midas Heritage 3000)…

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Lisbon7.jpg

…I can usually be found playing one of these!

Firstly, Baby No.1. My beautiful G&L L2500. I made the switch to the L2500 after playing a stunning Musicman Stingray 5 for a year or so, but it just didn’t give me the range of tones I needed. Anyway, I’m pretty much a Fender man, and both the Stingray and L2500 are Leo Fender designs, so they’re both good for me!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass1.jpg

Next, my Fender Sting Signature Precision. It just has such a unique sound and look, and is one of the most awesome basses for reggae I’ve ever played. A great reminder of where the electric bass started, and a great contrast to the active G&L

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass3.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass4.jpg

Baby No. 3 is a fretless 5 string Mexican Fender Jazz Bass. She started life as a fretted instrument, but when I bought the Stingray 5 I thought having a fretless 5 might be nice, so a friend de-fretted it for me, and did a superb job of it!

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass6.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass7.jpg

My backup fretted 5 string is a cheap-ish Spector. I don’t usually go for 35 inch scale (being a Fender lover) but this one feels pretty right to me

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass8.jpg

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y36/MMSR5/More%20Stuff/Bass9.jpg

I also have an Ibanez BTB-400Q, and an old Yamaha 4 string fretless and my first ever bass, a 1997 Squire Precision, but I think that’s just about enough photos for one post!

I (like my avatar) am a semi pro Drummer (i get paid, but, it’s very little ) Done the “get famous and rich” thing when i was younger, shockingly, i find myself neither nowadays , been doing covers bands for past 10 or so years, mostly classic rock stuff, as i’m a wee bit of a loud drummer

hmm classic rocks, what particulary?
