A good friend’s wife has asked my advice.
She wants to give him a really good birthday present “Does anyone offer flights in a Spitfire…..?”
If (as I assume) non of the two seat Spitfires are available for pleasure flights can anyone offer alternative ideas? (excepting the Tiger Moth).

If you want the real aviation experience rent a derelict shed on a farm, position bits of aeroplane so that the roof leaks miss. Spend four years in there in the freezing cold, pouring rain and baking sun. Throw away all your money and get your “Cynicism Badge” when the umpteenth person promises to deliver something on time!
Find a rat living in the box with your exhaust system!
Then, spend even more money on moving it, certifying it and hangerage.
Then spend some more money as there are bound to be ways that have not been invented yet but they will get you in the end.
Of course, at the end of this you might have an aeroplane and you then have to remember how to fly it.
I did all the above and last night did my first post test, post paperwork, post check out flight. It also happened to cover the time when I exceeded 200 hours total (at last)
I still have nightmares about black sheds (went and flew over it last night) but the end result is great.
I wouldn’t really recommend it really.
well, just the flying bit.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
I think the Hunter option is more than she wanted to pay.
Am passing on all the info to friend’s wife – will post here what the result was (after his birthday).

Is that not the same supplier Blue Robin? Clicks through to the same place, are you saying there’s a margin in there?

Kemble – www.deltajets.com ( Look under Shares Available )
Exeter – www.hawkerhunter.co.uk

Good value I reckon!

Roger – what’s the budget? Are they able to travel? Have they been in an aeroplane before? If so, doing what?
The above sounds expensive and far flung. I’d by thinking about a trial lesson say from Wellesbourne (in a Robin *wink*) and going from there.

The Aviodrome organises flights in a Fokker S.11’s. If you want they will go aerobatic as well, often even in formation. Flights are only available from Lelystad though, which may be a disadvantage.

If your looking at Spitfire money how about a flight in a Hunter?
By: YakRider - 26th April 2005 at 17:08
How about the Moth Club Charity Weekend at Old Warden – June 11-12? All proceeds go to charity and he can get a flight in a Moth or probably a Chippie or other DH type instead/too much cheaper than the commercial outfits do. Also there’s the museum to look around and his Mrs can also do the Swiss Garden!

I guess the most easily accesible ‘warbird’ experience would be:
*A roof over your head
*Noisy
*Single piston engine
*40s vintage, low wing monoplane
*Roundels on the wing
*Flown by a trusted forum member (don’t worry, it’s not me!)
You might like to try a local ‘spitfire substitute’, the Percival Prentice.
You can also bring a couple of friends along for the ride 🙂
Anything could be arranged, but it is doing pleasure flights at Wellesbourne in the near future.

Not sure there’s much in this country (if anything) in a Warbird.
I’m hoping to get a flight here .. http://www.barnstorming.com/aeropress/cgi_bin/xfer.cgi?page=prod_warbird.php#toptop
….as will be over in Calfornia on hols next month.
Bit far to go though eh?
How about a helecopter trial lesson…I did one last year at Cranfield, and it was great….adrenelin was pumpin after that
