What is a good computer for flight sim?

Hi folks:)

I am trying to build a computer for a customer who wants to install the latest flight sim….I see windows are about to release a new version and he is also interested in that..

OK! So far I have these components…based entirely on his wallet…:)

ASUS P7P55D DELUXE P55 S-1156 ATX
INTEL CORE I7 860 2.80GHZ 8MB S-1156
ASUS GEFORCE 9800GT 1GB DDR3 PCI-E VGA/DVI/HDMI
CORSAIR 4GB DDR3 DOMINATOR DHX+1600MHZ CL8 (2X2GB)
ANTEC MIDTOWER THREE HUNDRED ATX BLACK
LG DVD±R/RW/RAM DL 22X SATA RETAIL BLACK
OCZ MODXSTREAM PRO 600 WATT PSU
WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLUE 320GB SATA/300 16MB
MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM SWE DVD
NOCTUA NH-U12P SE2 S-775/1156/1366/AM2+/AM3
NOCTUA NF-P12-1300 SILENT CASE FAN 120MM
DELL 2209WA ULTRASHARP 22″ WIDE TFT TCO-03 BLACK

My supplier has just stopped the graphics card!! Was wondering if anyone would like to pitch in and give me ideas for a graphics card? Looking for one that will cope with the program and just give that little extra….:)

I am open to suggestions or recommendations or changes to my shopping list….LOL

Any help on this matter will be gratefully received!

Thanks

HI guys!

frankvw
Thanks for the update. OK! don’t want you to take offense but I think a special fan system for the processor is a must in most game computers and after building a lot of computers for customers and myself, and after umpteen tests, I am absolutely certain that a stock fan isn’t the way to go. I don’t play games, but i do push my computers a little and these fan systems for the processor from Noktua drop the working temperature often by at least 5 degrees c and that is always worth having. The side fan is another nice little extra…definitely worth mentioning to my customer.

Hi folks:)

I see windows are about to release a new version and he is also interested in that..

XBox 360!

Wait until Microsoft (not Windows) Flight is actually released, then you will best know.

As to MS-F, it’s part of “LIVE”, which was created for XBox but has expanded to include Windows.

As such, would not be surprised if an XBox version of MS-F comes out.

Oh, and keep eye out for Storm of War, if you want a combat sim, it may be far away the best when that is out.

No, what you need is a fan on the cases’ side panel, blowing air to the bottom part of the mainboard. Otherwise, it will become an oven down there, and the computer will crash a couple of minutes (if lucky) after you push it a little.

The rest seems fine, not sure you need a special CPU fan, unless you wish to lower the noise level. Otherwise, the stock fan does the job.

Hi again!

OK! Found two that seem OK and they seem to have quite good prices for them here in Sweden.

I am adding links to English sites to show you what I mean. The first is from at Novatech

The other is at Newegg.com

What do you think of those choices….honestly now…:)

Hi frankvw 🙂

Sorry, the info about the operative system seems to have gone AWOL. Yes, the computer is going to have 64bits. With the retail version you get both, which makes it easier for me….

OK! I will take a look at another graphics card and point out the more ram to my customer. I will post the info I find on graphics cards to see what you and others think…

As to the fans the:

NOCTUA NH-U12P SE2 S-775/1156/1366/AM2+/AM3

Take a look if you have the time at Noktua

has two fans on it one blowing in and one blowing out. The chassis has two already installed one at the top of the chassis and one at the back. I will be adding a fan at the front blowing in to the unit to keep the hard drive cool and improve circulation.
Do I need more?

My customer is a keen enthsiast, so he will be interested in your comments

The card you chose indeed is a little “light” in comparison to the rest of the setup.
Not sure where Nvidia is at right now, but usually, for that kind of application, without spending a fortune, you should look in the 200€ range.
May I also suggest a bit more ram, but you’ll need a 64bit OS (will your applications still work with it? )

And, VERY important with these motherboards: see that you have a fan pushing air inside from the side panel: a large graphics card WILL block the airflow to one of the mainboard controllers (what used to be referred as southbridge on previous systems). I have had the painful experience.

Hope it helps
