I have just been wondering what is the most popular mark of Spitfire. Mine is the Mark Vb.

It has to be the MkIIa or LF.IXe for me! But I am partial to a PR.XIX

That would make a nice sight, let’s hope someone does it.

The high-back Mk.XIV would be my choice, preferably with un-clipped tips.
On the subject of wing tip lengths, would it be possible to fit the long span high altitude tips to a modern day airworthy Spit? Do the drawings and design data etc still exist?

The Mk. XII has only one radiator?? seems to be a regression to the early spitfire cooling configuration.
Spitfire radiator symmetry.
The Mk XII Spitfire with single stage supercharger short Griffon engine uses the coolant and oil radiator configuration of the Mk Vc Tropical.
The tropical full width Mk V radiator is 1″ deeper than the standard Mk V.
The Mk IX Spitfire with two stage supercharger Merlin requires an extra radiator for the inter-cooler resulting in a symmetric design of two half main coolant radiators with respective oil and inter-cooler radiators.
The Mk XIV with two stage supercharger Griffon thus requires an inter-cooler radiator and is accommodated in a symmetrical but deeper radiator package.

I don’t think anyone on this forum really cares for Spitfires.
Mods, please lock this thread. :dev2:
Seafire XV please.

steve611 Option 1 I would go for the Spitfire jet fighter regularly featured in the Daily Wail.

Tricky one-
Option 1 I would go for the Spitfire jet fighter regularly featured in the Daily Wail.
Option 2 Any Spit with a prop up front is fine by me.
Option 3 Effectively option 2 but it all depends on the reference frame. If you want to do BoB then I and II. Expedience then gives you V and IX/XVI. PLan A gives you VIII. and so on.

For me Mk I, Mk Ia, Mk II or Mk VIII.
Cheers,

Don’t care as long as it is high back and round fin.
(Unless I have to go to war in it, in which case the fastest available and ideally with lots of armour plate)

Very difficult, but I have always liked the Mk VIII as the pinnacle of the Merlin powered machines, but love the Mk I for its ‘purity’.
In terms of Griffon powered machines the Mk XIV and Seafire 17 are my favourites.

I quite like the ones with the pointy wings, VI and VII (?)
