Must stop doing this…but I bought something today so that we (collectively) could identify it!!! It is marked with the classic Air Ministry crown stamp and 1938 date L.Adams Ltd.
It has a knob that changes the inclination of the bubble tubes and can be set 0 to 10 degs (the knob says 1 div = 1min)
Is it for setting up fixed guns or a camera….’David….what is it? Its over to you!’

Tony did it come from ‘work’ (Could it be an obsure instrumentation fit?) or a civilian source?

Looks like an anti-buffet tail fairing around the same size and shape as something like a Buccaneer?

looks similar to an aircraft rigging inclinometer.
It is a rigging inclinometer. I used both these and their bulkier, more accurate (?) brethren regularly in conjunction with rigging boards since first encountering them at Halton. The ones used in training had similar dates IIRC! I daresay they were used to align weapons too, being a general purpose rigging tool.

Nice bit of kit……was also used for setting up Vickers guns…is yours with its box TONY?
Mine is used almost daily for setting up milling machine etc.

Its a good one. Mine is a simple spirit level – 3″ glass (Uber accurate though)… that one can be set to the minutes by the looks of it.

Interesting. I use an identical one at work, I never thought it could be anywhere near that old, I will have to check it out.
Adams also made oxygen valves and fittings for aircraft.

“Inclined to agree” Yep the word ‘inclinometer’ immediatly sprang to mind at first viewing of your photo ….. anything that needs an incline set into it !!
