Taken at Duxford in August/september 2000. What aircraft is this? I do not remember ever seeing it again.

It did appear at ‘Legends’ as ‘Fargo Express’, 1999. Below is an image taken slightly earlier than July 99, not quite sure of the exact date.

I’ll second that, for one of the calendars as I recall.

It is a shame, if true, that one of my favourit musician does not take better care of his Spitfire!
David Gilmore seems to have a little bit more of an interest in aviation. Me and my friend were allowed to walk through his hangar at North Weald in 2000. And what an Alladins Cave it was!:D

Knopfler is (or maybe was) the lead singer/guitarist for Dire Straits, a popular 80’s beat combo.

And this is Dave Gilmore from another popular group, Pink Floyd

Did this spitfire appear at a Duxford show in a USAAF scheme in about 1999 or 2000?
Or was that another

Now there’s a thing.
De Cadinet operated it, it has been owned by another person who’s name has been mentioned on this thread for some years. This person came up to the hanger once to see what his money had been spent on when the aircraft was having it’s annual.
Since the restoration completion in 1990 this machine has been flown for only a short time it spent a number of years tucked up in the back of another hanger, but at least it was kept clean. From memory it only flew regularly between 1996 and 2001, although it made a brief appearence in 94/95 and suffered a cooked engine into the bargain. The poor old thing could do with some TLC.

I was sure it was never DeCadenet money and Dave Gilmour had a finger in this pie along with Knofler, Norman Lees flew this aircraft quite a bit from north weald before DeCadenet put a spoke in the works, DeCad fell out with Brendon Walsh over non payment of rent at Hanger 4, you may find it cant get out of the hanger now for simlar reasons.

Who the hell is Mark Knopfler??
(I may be young, doesn’t mean I’m in tune with music ;))
It’s a pity they’ve not kept this one flying, but if I remember from earlier posts there seemed to be some bother with the fuel tanks?

I would suggest to you that most £1m ‘toy’ aircraft are registered to companies with off shore connection, the structure of which we have but the feintest of visibility.
The ‘registered owner’ is not necessarily the ‘financial owner’.

DE CADENET MOTOR RACING LTD
is the registered owner of G-MXVI (TE184).
It had a C of A in the Permit to Fly Category expired at the end of May 2002.

Fair comment Mark 12 but i can only go by what was said at the time i am more intrigued now by this spit and its ownership.

Duxfordhawk,
We must not confuse the world of Spitfire ownership with the world of Spitfire custodianship. Two different things.
I would be pretty certain that the current owner has owned it for some years now. 😉

ps Nice paint scheme 😉
It was definitley owned by De cadenet in 2000 when it dipsplayed at the B.O.B show at Biggin Hill intresting if he did sell it to Mark Knopfler i just wonder if it lies just gathering purely because to get it in the sky again may cost more than it could bring in flying at Airshows etc,After all its quiet rare to see a solo spitfire display that is not by either one of the following BBMf,OFMC,TFC,or Aircraft restoration lately,I hope she flies again as there can never be too many spitfires flying for me.

Mike – I would say that price Galdri mentioned was about spot on if not a touch high. She has been sat for a while and needs some money spent on her.

I think that you’ll find your price estimate is a touch on the conservative side mate.
