What is the best Aviation item you have every bough or acquired ?

As a project to while away the hours of lockdown I started scanning old family photos for distributing to the rest of the family. Just today I came across this photo again. Considering the memories it brings back of many happy times spent at Strathallan airfield I think it’s definitely worth a mention here. 

My dad, with whom I frequented the airfield, had taken ill and the guys at Strathallan kindly signed this photo as a memento for him.

Couple of named uniform items, potentially very interesting, but, as in recent updated tunic post, cannot prove 100% one way or the other.

an argentinian pucara bomb fusing panel and tacho  from the falklands

or a ww2 1:48 brass trench art whirlwind with a base made from a 20mm shell and RAF button

I aquired an original example of the Dinky Toy diecast model of the Maia Composite aircraft, upon the death of my father. It is still in its original boxing.

He remembered seeing the real thing, taking-off from the River Tay, when he skived off school.

So many things that I could not choose one thing, but I will keep thinking.

Tough Question

I guess this would be high on my list – my 1969 Glasflugel Libelle 201b which I flew 1989 – 1992  a lovely little glider to fly,usually based at Old Sarum but this pic  at Rivar Hill/Shalbourne Wilts in june 1990 (big airshow at Boscombe Down meant we could not fly from O.S)

Wonderful, and that magic word ‘Free’. Well done. 

And it was free with the comment “take it away before it gets scrapped!”

Fieseler Fi103 R4 Reichenberg piloted flying bomb now on display at the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum at Headcorn Kent.

Think mine are a Comet poster with several autographs of DH fame and a document discussing the Avro Arrow two engine installation.

Bazv – as requested pics of the spares box -for the piston rings for the MAN diesel generators used for in port electrical generation. Confirmed by MAN archive with the shipping confirmation documents to Deutsche Werk at Kiel – just after Adolf had launched her.

I also have a section of Malay teak from the Tirpitz deck – with a plaque on it from Mayor of Tromso to 617 Sqdn.

I recovered a data plate from Sgt. Ward’s Wellington L7818 back in the 1980’s. It was the best find ever. Donated it to the RNZAF museum a few years ago.
