Adrian – once in a blue moon we would back up the Shed if it was on maintenance.

I think there is becoming a bit of a divide here as to whether people are talking about scheduled flight time/distance as opposed to actual flight time taken.

I believe the Loganair Westray-Papa Westray service has been done in around the 90 second mark! Moondance is the one to ask.

Didn’t Continental used to operate an intra-city service in Houston? It must have been G Bush->Hobby.

Then again it might have been in Dallas?

Also, there used to be flights from San Francisco to Oakland. That can’t be very far.

Then there was the LHR-LGW link which was scrapped decades ago.

The actual distances are a lot longer than the likes of Westray-Papa Westray, but a scheduled flight between 2 points in one city is impressive!

Andrewm & EAL_KING – those flights aren’t commercial operations though.

From JER to GCI – I never managed it in less than a whisker over 6 minutes in the Saab and that nearly had us going around due to not getting stabilised on the approach. I don’t think we could have done much faster than that. 1000′ and 250kts until we chickened out at the far end!

Flybe. technically do not have the right to sell tickets on the JER-GCI/GCI-JER sectors till around 30 minutes before departure so it wouldn’t really be counted as a true flight but rather a continuation or a double up before going on to the UK as it is not viably used as inter island.

The Aurigny Shorts 360 does it in around 10/15 minutes with the Trislander just under 20. If you want really quick then the Lufthansa or SATA aircraft that sometimes comes in would be there.

Plus the SAA flight is required to make a stop in Sal by the FAA on both sections of the flight due to fuel issues. This adds an additional 90 minutes on the journey.

The Westray – Papa Westray flight covers a distance of approx. 2 miles, and this holds the world record for the shortest scheduled commercial flight. BA schedule it as 2 minutes, although it has clocked 1 minute before.

Dartie, I’ve done 16hrs 45 on an A340 HKG-LHR (prior to Virgin being allowed access to Chinese airspace) although I believe one of the same services around that time took 16 hrs 55. From HKG we had to route to Japan before then heading west accross Siberia. It was a looooong flight!

The longest flight is from SYD to LAX some 12400km and 14hrs. The shortest flight is probably from Archerfield Airport to Brisbane Airport which are very rare or from Brisbane Airport to Coolangatta Airport which are little more common the from Archerfield to Brisbane.

Archerfield to Brisbane – 30km
Brisbane to Coolangatta – 100km.

Well Newark to Hong Kong used to be the longest though it stopped, think it might be coming back in the future. I would probably have to agree with Kabir on the longest though doesn’t South African make a stop in the Cape Verde Islands?

It used to be CDG- Auckland in NZ.

I’m not sure it still exists.
