What is the strangest thing….

…you ever saw at an airshow? We’ve all seen unusual acts, planes with wheels on their top wings so they can land upside down, Robosaurus over here in the states tearing up old airplanes on the taxiway as a message to kids not to do drugs (the old planes were supposed to represent drug trafficking planes), dragsters racing planes down the runway….but what is the weirdest thing you have ever seen yourself at an airshow anywhere? For me it had to have been at the CAF show at Midland one year…a black guy wearing the CAF Colonel uniform (back then CAF meant CONFEDERATE Air Force…for those of you unfamiliar with American history the CONFEDERATES were NOT on the side of the black soldiers in the American Civil War, they were the side that wanted to keep slavery…) Either this guy liked WWII planes so much that he did’nt mind wearing the CAF Colonel uniform, or he just did’nt care….it always struck me as really peculiar!

What you guys got?

with out doubt the strangest thing I’ve seen was this guy at Oshkosh last year.

Nice afternoon, a little snooze….all the time a USMC AV8B was doing its hovering act not quite a few hundred yards in front of him…..his snores could be heard over the noise of the Harrier !!!!!! (I’ve deleted his face details cos I’d hate to think he would be recognised at any other airshow !!!!)

Quite the most outstanding act I’ve ever witnessed….truly awseome power !!!!!

I bet they wouldn’t do this now!!

The CAF B-17 coming into land with one wheel up and one wheel down. For those first timers not ‘in the know’, me included, great concern and anticipation of much sparks and the inevitable ground loop. A gentle touch with one wheel then lift off…all pre planned.

“Fooled ya”.

An airborne wheelchair launch from a V1 ramp, containing one member of the public being helped to get closer to the aircraft to make up for the limited lens size, propelled by many volunteers, some wearing sandals and some in coffee-covered t-shirts. His defiance of gravity was impressive.
