What is there to look forward to in 2009

Hello there folks-been too long since i posted, so as i am fresh back from honeymoon in the maldives (where coincidently i went on a DH twin otter seaplane -but more of that later!) so i thought i would give it a go.

So what is everyone looking forward to in 2009 on the warbird / airshow scene? here are mine:

– see ‘marinell’ in action
-Pts Hurri-bomber
-Return of the sabena old timers lizzie
-Return of twilight tear
-red bull p38 debut in the Uk (hopefully)
-TFC new seafury, and the return of both the RNHF sea furies
-TFC p47
-HAC yak 1 progress
-Further progress on the blenheim
-Glacier girl hopefully making it across the pond

But most importantly a safe flying season with plenty of sunshine!!!

Also guys, any news on any other projects such as the BBMF mk XVI spit?

Cheers

This 262 was aquired by the Collings Foundation late last year. It will be joining our Bomber Tour this year, possibly as soon as April. Flight experiences will be available…and stick time.

can’t wait.

This year – Cockpitfest!

Yes, it’s “the Fest” for me too. Will probably take the Meatbox again, if I have got enough done for the punters and cockpitters to see the improvements.

Look forward to seeing you there Jon H, you’ll be a part of the ever-increasing north-west contingent. We’ll see if we can beat our record of 13 bods and six cockpits/panel displays.

Newark Museum and Bill O’Sullivan, with sponsorship by our host Flypast magazine, have really put cockpit collecting on the map, not that there weren’t quite a few cockpit collectors out there anyway. It’s just that the event has focussed the disparate efforts and interests of owners in the field into a coherent and highly visual format.

Cockpitfest has also been the source of much inspiration and determination by cockpit owners to get their projects finished, as well as to locate and save new ones and to bring these along for us all to see.

It is critical to stress that it does not matter what your project looks like to start with. It enables visitors to see how far gone many of these cockpits are and what can be done over a few short years to bring them back to something approaching their former glory.

Before Cockpitfest came along there was nowhere to really showcase your cockpit pride and joy, other than at the museum you attended or a local village fete. Now you can attend the aerojumble, show off all day and talk aviation, fill your face with hog roast, get legless and then play drunken cricket! My lad Nick can’t wait, he counts the days (though being 14 years-old I’m not sure his interests lie just in the aviation element of the event).

Definitely the (ground)show of the year and one that everyone should try to get to – with cockpit or without.

Anon.

Hopefully the following:

Meteor T.7 WA591 – 2009 maybe a bit early.

Hi its Mark Jones Here, one of the founder members and co owner of Meteor
T7 WA591.

Well, all is looking good and progress is going well too.

WA591 and most of the spares for the aircraft are now based at Kemble in one of the new hangars.

Meteor Flight has now moved out of Yatesbury.

The aircraft is partly assembled with the center section, outer wings, rear fuse and tail plane all fitted and functional. Engines are being fitted and the cockpit is being worked on. With good fortune and good luck we hope to have WA591 flying before the end of the year.

When she flies she will be the oldest jet aircraft in the world flying today. This excludes the replica 262’s. WA592 was built in 1948 😀 and rebuilt over the last 16 years !

Best regards
Mark Jones
