In one of the Bassingbourn museum stores is this long held wooden trestle. Thought to be from the time when the Wellington OTU was based there its actual use has always been a mystery to members. The centre section with the curved top is adjustable by sliding up or down – and holding in place with pins. There seems to be no markings or spec plates on it to aid identity.
Sadly its too big to fit inside the museum itself but we would love to know what it is and its original use
Anyone?

You have yourself an ECP (Electrical Control Panel) from an early B2 there Rob.It sits vertically to Stbd rear of the pilot facing the pressure bulkhead. Technically we are looking at its rear face as the front will be circuit breakets, plenty thereof! I rather like it! 😉

Probably wrong but reminds me of the end of a large throttle box .

Another item from the stores, this time a control panel which i presume is Canberra B.2 but would appreciate confirmation from someone. Thanks.

Prob not canberra era – we had Universal Jacking trestles by then – although there are sometimes local shortages LOL
It also is slightly ‘flattened’ at the bottom of the curve which would not be correct for a Canberra – so maybe Wellington still a possibility ?

Cheers Baz. I was thinking along the same lines – maybe for supporting a Canberra tail, but I thought it looked too old for jets.

Looks a little like a tail trestle Rob,perhaps for tailwheel changing…not sure if it would be high enough to put the a/c into ‘Rigging Position’ but I am sure somebody on here will have the AP refs etc 😀
