dark light

What is this please?

What is it and from what aircraft type might it have come ?

Found by a friend in a car boot box of junk……
The reverse of the label says”Certified Servicable, Explosives removed, relevant safety precautions taken”….with a date 10/1/ 58 and signed by what looks like J Light.

OK – please forget about the what is it …I have found a very good description on the Flight Archive Jan 12 1950……. the question now is …. What type of aircraft would it have been used on?

Given what is said in the Flight extract regarding civilian use in Hermes, I am thinking possibly Hastings?
