A nice little puzzle for the forum on a Saturday evening 🙂
We have had this seat (well pair of) at Speke for a few years now but never worked out what they are from?

Herc Nav seat I think
Definitely not Herc. I’ve fitted enough of the things over the years.

The mechanism under the seat is for adjustment of the seat height.
There are other adjustments on these seats including lumbar (which moves the backrest in and out),thigh (which adjusts 2 thigh pads at the front of the seat, these also have a spring loaded over-ride as well), and on some seats there are fore and aft and side to side adjustments if the base is secured to the flight deck floor (as on the F100/F70) instead of the seat assembly moving on seat rails.
Having looked over an IPECO 737 seat today the upper part is similar to the photos, but the seat rail mountings are different. Having a look at the pictures again, the seat rail mountings look like they are meant to swivel as the seat moves along the rail. This suggests to me one of the larger aircraft types, as they would have the most space in the flight deck for this type of movement.
There should be a data plate on the seat pan or back structure with an IPECO part number following this type of sequence 3AXX-XXX-XX

Herc Nav seat I think

The reason I thought it might come from a helicopter, either military or civvy, was because of the mechanism visable under the seat pan, connecting it to the base structure.
I’m no expert, but it looks to me like the sort of collapsable system fitted to helicopter seats, to absorb some of the forces applied during a hi-impact vertical landing, usually associated with engine problems etc.
I’m probably well wide of the mark with this suggestion, but it does intrigue me.

Colour
The Dark Admiralty Grey seems to be an IPECO house colour for their range of crew seats, so doesn’t mean exclusively military.
It appears all the seat is missing are the sheepskin covers for seat base and back, usually in matching grey but can be coloured specifically for an airline/customer.The covers can also be manufactured by other manufacturers apart from IPECO.

The colouring (Dark ADmiralty Grey) would suggest a UK mil type as well – but it looks a bit luxorious for UK Mil helicopters!

Is it possibly from a helicopter, maybe a military type?
Civil Aviation seats don’t normally have shoulder and crotch straps fitted, and it is definitely not from a Nimrod. (I should know as I spent over 7 years working on Nimrods, and flew in them often).

Pacific Scientific is a well-known seatbelts manufacturer, making belts for anything from sailplanes to triple 7’s. Not that I am implying that the seat is from a sailplane 😉

I was thinking of something along the big commercial types and a boeing fits well with that theory.
Do airlines put their own logos on seat belts like this?
If so I was thinking a Cathay Pacific aircraft.
Possible??

My thought was Herc –

Nimrod was a possible as well, but looking at pictures the arm rests seem to rotate when in the up position to tuck in behind the seat backpad. Whereas these dont.

Definitely not Herc. 😉

Ipeco seat
It looks very similar to the IPECO seats fitted to the 737, there should be a data plate either in the side of the seat pan or underneath the seat cushions. If it’s a Boeing item there maybe a Boeing part number as well as the IPECO number. If you’re really stumped and have the IPECO p/n then you can drop them a line

They’re based in Southend.

C-135 variant?
By: hunterxf382 - 27th November 2011 at 02:27
To me – not being an expert at all to be honest….. it looks Boeing?
The seat harness buckle saying “Pacific” was enough to get me searching for something along those lines, and this photo of a Qantas 707 shows a seat which shares a lot of common features and styles. Look at the armrest ends – same / headrest – same etc etc. I can’t find anything else that looks similar, so if it’s not a Boeing fit, then maybe something else American?

Do you need any BAC111 seats?!
