Can anyone help me identify what type of aircraft this tank is from?
No pictures at the moment, but briefly it is a flat oval in shape, about 1 ft long, 4 inches deep and 12 inches wide. It has a tap in one corner and a bacolite filler on the top edge.
Theres a plate welded to the side that says
WINDSCREEN DE-ICING FLUID TANK
TANK PART NO. 64882-1
TANK CAPACITY 2.25 GALLONS
INSPECTION APP. WSM. VA.33
The tank is made from aluminium and is painted an olive drab colour.
Ive been told that its American and came from an air crash in suffolk, but i really have no idea if this is true. Can any forum members help me?
If needed, pics to follow!
Somone will tell me its from a 1978 cortina now!

No comments Tim!
It’s one of those “I’ve seen one of those things” issues with me. I’ve checked C47, Hudson, and Ventura manuals and nope not those and I’m sure we’ve got one somewhere in our stores as the minute I saw the pic the old bells rung. More digging is called for.
Bro Cuskelly are you out there? Might be something you know over the other side of the ditch like B24/25?

Can you give the lineal measurement length and height as per the posted photo so I can confirm a theory?
cheers
I know what your going to say Denys, and yes your right. Ive posted the wrong measurements!
Its just under 19 inches long, and its 11 inches wide (not including filler cap) it has a depth of 4 1/2 inches.
I should have spotted my mistake when I posted.

Thanks Elliott,
Ill look into it now.
Ill post the exact tank measurements when I find my tape measure.

Hey Tim
If it’s American, your best bet for an ID is to post a pic of it on the WIX forum:

Looks interesting!
Good luck
Elliott
Thanks mark.
All of the bolts holding various covers and outlets onto the tank have a locking wire running through them and the bacolite filler cap has a dipstick attatched to it marking out gallons.
Someone one somewhere must know what it is, and where its from.

Another way you could use to determine from which side of the pond it comes from would be to look at the pipe fittings, all Brit stuff is BS or BSP whilst American stuff is either AN or ANP or MS.

Hi Tim,
I’ve resized by 66%, hopefully it’s clear enough for a tank expert to work out what it is…

Thanks for the offer Dave T, but somone is already on the case resizing the photo for me. Fingers crossed it will up posted shortly…..
Ive got a few instruments and bits and pieces that are unidentifed. Maybe there should be a new forum called “what the heck is this??”

Just a thought.
Have you tried measuring the capacity?
US gallons and imperial gallons are different. It might help if, for instance, you found you couldn’t squeeze two and a quarter imperial gallons into it; the implication would be that this was definitely American

Unlikely to be american, as the windscreen is referred to as a windshield over here in the states.
Cheers,
Richard
Not always…I’ve seen various references to windscreens…and I really don’t think it’s from anything other than an aircraft. How many cars or trucks have 2+gallon washing fluid/anti-ice reservoir?
But I’m afraid you missed the point of my initial reply…a bit of humor.
I’ll explain it if I must….

If it is canadian, then it must be from a Yale. The Canadians used an awful lot of them 😉 😀

After carefull examination of the language on the side of the tank, I can identify it as coming from an American, British or Canadian aircraft.
😀
Really?
It was the word ‘windscren’ that had me fazed  Is that Canadian then?
Moggy 😀
