[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-11-02 AT 12:29 PM (GMT)]Most of us fly to them every year as part of a package deal but just which exactly is the best resort airport you’ve had the pleasure of flying in and out of?
I’m interested to know because of my vivid flightsimming thesedays; and quite fancy going to somewhere other than my favourite holiday airport – Corfu!
I love the traffic (everything from JMC757’s to Lauda 777’s), the approach onto 35 over the water, the climb from takeoff on 17 to avoid nearby mountainous terrain and to be honest, you can’t fault the terminal – it always seems to cope even though 7 charter flights are departing in the space of half an hour even though the departure lounge has capacity for like 2 flights 🙂
oh and on another note: its good to be back!

RE: What is your favourite ‘Holiday Airport’ ?
It’s not just the airport that smell’s of sh*t. The whole town does as well. I overnighted there a couple of times and managed to offend the Catalan population by ordering ny food/drinks etc in Castillian Spanish. Almost as offensive I gather as a tourist landing in Scotland and saying “It sure is pretty here in England” ! (lol)

Girona is another undesirable. Bad weather, as you say, high terrain, convoluted procedural approaches, nasty downslope on the shortish southerly runway (which is usually slippery in the rain). And just to make things worse, when you open the cabin door you often get hit with a strange aroma of dog pooh! Must be some sort of sewage plant nearby!

That was the flight from Cardiff and the night it crashed was wet and there were freak storms.
I flew Gatwick to Girona in June of 1999 on a Britannia 767-200 and it all seems a blur. I can’t remember anything about the flight or the aircraft, except that the flight time was a mere 75 minutes!
Montego Bay is a great airport and I was so unimpressed by the article by Airliner World. Some shots from inside the terminal would have been great as it really is a great airport with some great viewing facilties.
Just look at the shot below. What makes it hard to believe is that it was taken on Christmas Day… God it must be nice to have temperatures in the 30s all year round!

My least Favourite in Gerona in Spain because of the Bad weather/storms! The pic below shows the worst accident caused by the bad weather here!
Remember it???

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-11-02 AT 09:11 PM (GMT)]HON Honalulu, Hawaii
Lots of great long haul and regional commercial aircraft combined with military transport and air defense AC. C-17 C-5 C-141 share the ramp with F-15’s on alert status. There is even an outside chance you will see the space Shuttle there as HON is one of the designated emergency landing sites.
Hawaii no ka ‘oi (Hawaii is the very best)

It sends shivers down my spine just looking at it! It features in my top 3 most dangerous airports in Europe.
