If you could be any other nationality in the world what would you choose?, Some ultra-nationalists would reject the idea of being anything else.
What would it be?

I’m in the same camp as Philo, Mike and Kev. I’m English, always have been, always will be, regardless of where in the world I end up living.
But if, as a theoretical exercise, I ever had to choose another nationality, it would be either Dutch or Canadian. Both very proud of their heritage, quietly understated and very easy to get along with. That’s what I aspire to be.

If a cat has kittens in a stable you don’t call them horses, If your parents are english so would you have been regardless of what the paperwork said
If a Nazi disagrees with you and then gets into power, perhaps its time to leave your own country. Or should you fight back?
I think I would fight back so here goes…………….
You have your opinion mate it doesn’t mean you are right. I’m British, you will just have to live with it.

I disagree, Britain is a nation. In fact; and in the heart, if you want it to be. I want it to be and British it is what I call myself, I am a Briton and I am very proud of it. My parents and grandparents come from all over, I have friends and family from all over. I am Celtic, Saxon, Viking (possibly a bit Roman too.) I’ve probably got some European, African, Asian and many others in there somewhere along the road which would not worry me much. But Britain is a nation and British is what I am.I was nearly Australian though but don’t know what happened to that idea. My parents must’ve changed their minds I suppose.

However I do wish Sibeluis had been English because we could have his fantastic work renamed ‘Englandia’ and use it as a national anthem, its a very patriotic and stiring piece of music almost makes me want to be a Fin.
Hi Philo! yes I do live fairly close (Kidlington). I fully agree either that or take Elgars Pomp & Circumstance No 1 or 4 as our National Anthem, either is far more lively than the one we’ve got which was written by a German for a russian Czar. No 2 son also suggested the theme from The Battle of Britain

Welsh? Northern Irish? Those arent races of people but recent politically formed groups. The english are a combination of germanic, celtic, nordic, and maybe even some roman leftovers.

Born in England, live / work in England – would not want to call anywhere else my home.
However, after the referendum on the euro yesterday – I would suggest Sweden as an alternative 😉 – at least they got a vote on the euro – will we or will we be forced into it?
English 1st, British 2nd, European – never

As a kid I often wished I was either Scottish,Welsh or Irish…
Do not know why really…I think it maybe something to do with the Celtic background of the aforementioned countries..The hills of the Highlands, the music in the irish pubs the sheep in wales!!!
Have to say that the UK is one of the most beautifully historic countries in the world ..So I would have to say I am happy about being british and as long as I was in the UK I would be happy..
