[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-02-03 AT 02:31 PM (GMT)]what are you aware of thats either a hanger queen, in open storage, rotting on the fire dump or just ‘plane’ forgotten at your nearest big airport…or even local airfield ?. And have you or can you get some piccies to show the rest of us ?
At Paphos there the two Shakletons…these have stoppped depreciating and have now started to decompose !… and I think the last time I looked (not allowed to stop or take piccies unfortunately) there was also a Jet Provost and an old twin engined low wing monoplane of French origin…and I cant for the life of me think whats its called !!!.
C’mon guys, whats hiding out there ?
Over to you
cheers
Gary

The DC10 at MAN has now gone! No idea where, perhaps to the desert as mentioned?

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
Yip it could be a Viscount, we were doing about 70 in a bus when we passed it !
It didn’t look like Airtours colours though, and it looked more of a house than a hotel. Could be wrong though, it was last January and I was a little “tired”.

Yep its by the Airtours Beach club hotel i think – the hotel has its own runway if i remember rightly. I think the aircaft is actually Vickers Viscount in a handpainted airtours colouscheme i think – does that sound about right?

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
Has anyone taken the bus/road trip between Las Palmas airport and any of the main resorts on the southern side of Gran Canaria ?
There’s something resembling a DC-6 or suchlike in a driveway next to a house. Anyone know what I’m talking about ?

That Monarch DC-10, underwent an engine test last week. It is soon to be put into the desert and used for spares/or scrapped. 🙁

At Manchester we’ve got an ex-Monarch DC10 mothballed and ….. a/the BAe RJX! I understand that a museum will be getting the RJX

Yep, the old nose section’s still there, the last I heard Wetherspoons had put in a bid to buy it and turn into a bar.
Has anyone been to Majorca lately? the last time I was there there was a Convair rotting away in a field next to the airport

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
Actualy , a bunch of planes.
Since AirLib (IW) is bankrupt , most of his planes are stored at ORY.
Among them , are DC10 , MD82 , A340.
What a pity !!!!

Well, there is an old aircraft (sorry but I dont know which model… I’ll try to find out) which is used as a restaurant next to a highway in one of the exits of city (Florianópolis, Brazil).

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
There are about 8 BAE146’s here at exter. When i used to live in spain there was an aircraft right next to the runway which had been in a crash, and they left it there! looked like a DC8, its not the one the firemen use though, its a genuine accident. It must have been there a very long time though, completely rusted and a bit of a dump.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-02-03 AT 07:14 PM (GMT)]At LHR, there used to be an AFX Cargo 742, but now that they are back in action, its gone. There are two BA concordes, G-BOAA and G-BOAB, neither of these have got an air worthyness certificate and there’s a BEA Trident in imaculate condition.
At LGW (Wys maybe the better person to ask here) I know that there is an old Trident that was used for fire training, but last I heard, from Wys, it has now been moved near the FLS hanger at LGW, and the White comet, minus its wings.

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
At GCI there are a few stored Trislanders plus a Dart Herald and a Bandeirante for fire training. There are a few light aircraft though I cannot think of them off the top of my head.

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
Theres an A300 on the airfield at Filton, here in Bristol, and at Cosford (home) there is an Andover over the far side of the airfield which is already there. i have been told that in a hanger next to that andover is a couple of canberras (which I actually saw out at an airshow some time back).

RE: What ‘planes are stored at your neares big airport ?
A pair of ERJ-145’s have been stored in the open for about 9 months: G-EMBA and G-EMBB, both in half BA colour schemes.
There was a 748 with no engines and no flaps for ages, but it seems to have been restored to flying condition (or totally broken up).
The best I’ve seen (apart from BA Tridents all over the place in the UK) is the Comet parked up at LGW, minus engines and wings!

Just the usual defunct Trident in BAA colours at GLA these days. There used to be a rarther lovely Vickers Viking in the good old days, which I got to clamber round with my mate whilst aged around 11. I think it went to a museum in the borders for restoration ?
