What scheme would you choose?

If you could choose a new colour scheme and markings for any one flying warbird, what would you choose?

My choice would be to return the BBMF Hurricane PZ865 to its Hawker house colours of Royal blue and gold and reg G-AMAU for a couple of seasons. How about you?

Interesting one Sideslip, a changeable scheme would be good. I would think that the technology would be available in the nearer future than we think. Be good for sponsors.

Thats an interesting idea Arm Waver. I have wondered whether you could cover an entire aeroplane in cells (or whatever) that project colours that can be changed at will. Imagine an aeroplane flying at a display and on each pass its in a different colour scheme.

I would go for a monochrome/greyscale scheme so that it would look like an old photo superimposed on a modern background :dev2:

And just a very simple request not requiring a total scheme change – if the owner of Moth Minor G-AFPN would apply the registration in white or cream or silver please. Personally don’t like red on red. Sorry.

KM – B was a VC aircraft

to represent what the aircraft is supposed to represent they should do : Lanc A from squadron B that just had codes and survived 3 sorties !

I would like to see PA474 AS A NORMAL RUN OF THE MILL LANCASTER, representative as it should be, of the MANY not of the SPECIAL.

Has she ever been marked as a bog standard lanc of a bog standard squadron sans elaborate nose art etc ??

Yes.

It’s ‘original’ scheme when flown pre-BBMF when it was in Nettleton’s KM-B colours( did have mission marks though) and again in the mid 80’s as SR-D of 101 Sqn (no mission marks IIRC)

Of course it was also painted without any nose art or mission markers when it was in Gibsons AJ-G scheme in the early 80’s, but that hardly qualifies as an ordinary Lanc.

LF363 or any other of the flying Cannon-less Huricanes painted up as Hurricane Mk.1 P3943 JU-U of 111 Squadron on 18th August 1940 when it’s pilot Sgt. Harry Newton carried on firing at a Dornier 17 after it’s gunner had hit the Hurricane and set it and Harry on fire. He baled out and the Hurricane crashed at Tatsfield, Surrey. The Dornier was forced to ditch in the Channel due to damage from Newton’s attack and previous damage. To me this is an example of bravery up there with James Nicholson but it is little known, possibly because the Dornier was able to keep flying. The author Alfred Price reunited Harry with the Dornier crew in the mid 70’s while writing his book ‘The Hardest Day’.

Shuttleworth’s Lysander lose the all-black scheme in favour of a 357 Squadron, Burma scheme or a return to 309 (Polish) Squadron colours.

I too will add my vote for an accurately marked Spanish Buchon. Although not flying, I would absolutely love to see the Museum of Flight’s P-38 returned to night fighter “M” status complete with second seat, radar pod, and all black paint scheme.

There’s a lovely blue Buchon in Kalamazoo – saw it four years ago – I have to admit it was an unexpected highlight!

I would take the opportunity to put LF363 in Pete Brothers GZ-L P2921 Battle of Britain colours as i don`t think the BBMF have ever put one of their Hurricanes in 32 Squadron markings, which i think is long overdue.

Definately in agreement with you on this suggestion.

Would also like to see the Hendon B-17 and P-51 in RAF colours as well.
