RE: What to expect

Alot of passengers used to complain about the conditions when they arrived in the day time, also conditions are not favourable for operations of the aircraft. If you pass by Dubai airport during the day time ever checkout how dead it is,It is like a ghost town.

Well I wasn’t sure if they had premium economy or not – but it wasn’t available so must be v. popular.

I don’t understand the Dubai climate thing – surely when you are on the ground, you’d be inside air coniditioned aircraft or buildings. Or is it the aircraft – is is too hot for them to perform?

RE: What to expect

BA has premium economy on all services to Australia.
The reason why Emirates has strange schedules is due to the climate in Dubai.
You will find most emirates flights arrive in Dubai in the early morning due to the harsh heat of the day.Take it from me Dubai in the summer time is not a pleasent experience.
I have decided not to fly emirates to europe as staff as i really wanted to checkout Tokyo.
I fly
PER-SYD
SYD-NRT
on the one day with a 2 hour transfer in Sydney.

NRT-FRA
the next day JAL accomadate me overnight for free as there are no connections in Tokyo
I wont put some of the worse flights i have been on with some stupid routings.
Like flying to Chicago via Sydney and Hong Kong,Then returning via Kansai,Seoul,Singapore to Perth now that is stupid.

RE: What to expect

I’m off to MEL in June – just booked the tix, but only economy class unfortunately. Really not looking forward to the flight – it just cannot be healthy!!

What is needed is some decent alternatives. Emirates had a nice idea of breaking flights up in Dubai and Singapore, meaning less time at once in a poky little seat. But their timetables are really, really bad. If you want to leave London in the evening (ie. after work and after a connecting flight) then Emirates don’t seem to offer an option??

Also – I wanted to try out one of the “premium economy” seats like with the BA Traveller+ cabin – but no one actually seems to offer them on Aussie routes. Strange, for such long flights.

1 final gripe – the only airlines that do offer these seats (from LHR, just BA and Virgin I think) charge extortionate prices for them – about the same as online travel agents quote for full biz class fares!

RE: What to expect

Hey…i’ve got a family member who flew ADL-SYD with QF (737), then SYD-Yokyo and Tokyo-CDG with JAL (747).! (they then conected to Manchester on a truely fantastic A319 aircraft of Air France)

someone else (just yesterday) flew ADL-MEL with QF then MEL-Hong Kong, Hong Kong-LHR with CX.

Both impressed with flights lasting approx 36-48 hours (with a stop in the far-east).

Regards

Ben

RE: What to expect

well i have flown

LAX – SYD
SYD – LAX
SYD – Brisbane (cant remember code!)
SYD – CHC
CHC – SYD
SYD – LAX

all on qantas, not all on the same trip obviously, using BA/Qantas Business Round T World fare of about £2500 which is utterly brilliant value.

I have to say that BA business beats Qantas business hands down. I recently did LHR – SYD in Business on BA and would never have done it in economy, and would specify a BA flight. However saying that if it isnt full on Qantas and u dont have anyone besides u its superb, crew are excellent i have always found (on both). The best flight was ironically SYD – LAX previous time, as it was empty as hell, and quiet and had loads of sleep. u are a bit close together in qantas business and def get an aisle seat. def.

anyway enjoy!

RE: What to expect

Jesus, quite a trip. How long will you be underway? 48 hours. But it doesn’t matter if you travel business, but I wouldn’t risk doing that in economy 🙂
