In a couple of weeks my wife, me and our little boy (a future pilot if ever I saw one!:D) are going to Cambridgeshire for a week. What aviation related sights are there that we (OK, maybe not the wife) could go and see while we are there?

I was very disappointed to find when I got to The Eagle that it was completely closed undergoing renovation, but I did take a couple of shots of the exterior. I also popped in to Duxford on the way home hoping to see something flying but at 9.30 in the morning this proved to be asking a bit too much, I did however get to see ‘Memphis Belle’ parked on the apron. I’m not sure of the true identity of this aircraft as I thought the original Belle was in a museum in America.
Pictures will follow…

We seem to have made some progress, I’ve managed to get a trip to The Eagle penned in on the itinerary! 😀

There are 3 Citi7 buses. One goes to Saffron Walden one to Duxford village and one to Duxford War Museum. 😀
Brian
Yeah and it takes for ever and a day to get there via bus. I used to do it until I realised that taking a train to Whittlesford Parkway from Cambridge and then walking to IWM is actually quicker!

21st to the 25th, can Sally B not do a practice run during the week?
I doubt Sally would, but I’m sure there will be a few practise displays on the Thu and Fri that week so maybe save Duxford for the end of the week. Someone on here will have a better idea but there’s usually pictures posted in the days running up to an airshow at Duxford.

Hopefully you had a chance to see the 355th FG Memorial at Steeple Morden with its dedication to the RAF and USAAF KIA/MIA that flew from the airfield.
It is certainly one of the best – if not the best – such Memorials. We are very proud of the 355th UK Committee which takes such great care of the site and the CAF Foundation which manages the memorial Fund in perpetuity,

It is a first rate memorial: was introduced to it this very morning by fellow forumite, ozplane.

Bill, took a few minutes there just last Monday on my way back from Duxford and paid my respects, as I always try too on my frequent trips to and from Duxford. I agree it’s a wonderful memorial and peaceful setting.
