Hi all,
We have had some interesting type being ressurected such as the Grumman F3F, the Me262, the Oscars, Zero, FW190, early Mustangs, what would be the next project?
HP Hampden/Hereford, AW Siskin (yes please:))
Any views?
Cheers

I am sure there will be a lot more replicated Spitfires built too

A full size Stirling would be superb but I would settle for a 1/2 scale one just like Shorts did with the S31, built of wood/ply and powered by four 90hp Pobloy’s(a modern substitute would do). Had a good performance and room for two.
After that a Blackburn Blackburn, just because its so so ugly. Not commercially viable as no airshow would want it.

Westland-Hill Pterodactyl – or a Northrop YB-49
Isn’t there a Pterodactyl in the Science Museum in London, I though I saw one hanging from the ceiling while visiting there a few weeks ago.
The Siskin would be a prime example if you ask me regarding it’s construction. The engine is of course a problem but if one was available for a static example for the RAFM, othere engines could be used for flying airframes such as the Fairey Flycather used.
How about a Halifax (well you thought I was going to suggest it anyway weren’t you all).

It has to be something which is really lacking from the airshow circuit……..mosquito is nearly done, fw190’s are nearly there,…….
TYPHOON!!!!
Seconded.

Heinkel He 51, of course. It’s still going to take a while though but we’re working on it!

Personally I think the limits of replication were reached with the Me262. So far all replicas have been:
– Popular.
– Somewhat sexy. (Is an F3F sexy?, maybe to it’s mother?)
– Smaller size.
– Generally single seaters (light observation replica would have multiple seats). So for WWII aircraft the obvious candidates seem to have been done.
Wouldn’t it be great to see replicas of Beaufighters or Hornets though!
Spiteful or Seafang wouldnt be to hard to reproduce in this day and age would it?
Does anyone know if enough drawings survive to make it reality?

Good point Cees.. incidentally does anything substancial still exist of the AW Siskin.? Is there a fuselage, set of wings still extent? And what about the AS Jaguar engine, any of those still around..?
Yes, I’d love to see a Siskin. As far as I know there are three wings in the care of the RAFMuseum – I believe they are all uppers (and from the same side?) – one of them has been on display at Midland A.M., Baginton for quite a long time. There was (on a previous thread) talk of a rudder somewhere in deepest Warwickshire and, maybe, bits in Canada???
Jaguar engines are very rare – the R.R.H.T.(Coventry Branch) have one on display at Derby.

There is already a GAL Hotspur III at Middle Wallop which is a mix of replica and restored. There’s a Horsa II not far from completion at Shawbury so I’d go for a Hamilcar or at the very least the bts that are missing from the fuselage section at Wallop.

GAL Hotspur II + Miles Master GT II combo.
Oh I wish…
