What was that Plane?

Hi Everyone,

I fly everyweek and so I usually don’t pay attention to planes while taxing out for takeoff… my usual habit is to fall asleep…but last week I saw something cool which kept me peering out of my window.

Last Monday morning while flying out from Dullis airport in Washington DC, my while plane was waiting for its turn at takeoff I noticed this large passenger jet parked out in the middle of the airport away from the terminals. There was a Chevy Surburban type truck nearby along with a ladder truck and some guy walking beneath it (didn’t look like a maintaince person).

At first I dismissed it for some old US government 727 aircraft. But here was the problem… on second look it was an A340! I know Uncle Sam won’t buy from across the pond…so it became interesting.

It was a completely white jet – with no identification and twin blue pinstripes across the middle…like you would see on a car for example. On top of the aircraft were numerous antennae poking out. Not the standard stuff.

My digicam was stuck in the overhead compartment, so no pics from me. Anyone know?

RE: What was that Plane?

I’m pretty sure the picture below is it.The aircraft is a Saudi Saudi Arabian Government A340-213.It is used often by the Saudi Ambassador to the US.Its registration is HZ-124.Orginally stayed with Airbus as F-WWBA for the first 5 years of its life, apparenly still holds the record for the longest flight by a commercial airliner, Paris Le Bourget-Auckland New Zealand non-stop 10,627 nautical miles, in June 93 though I am not sure
