What was your most forgettable flight

Mine was a Continental 742 flight Melbourne, Sydney, Honolulu in 1988. The aircraft was old and dirty ex Qantas ex Peoples Express, the cabin crew were inattentive and rude, and the meals were insipid, also the leg between Sydney and Honolulu there was about five hours of nonstop turbulance.

Totally agree about MyTravel I couldnt move when I put my tray down when I went to Malaga in February on The 757.
I know Charter Airlines are meant to have the same space but I could definitly spread out more On the Thomas Cook flight on the way back.

I have two – the first was an East African Airways flight (a VC10)from Nairobi to Heathrow via Rome delayed in Nairobi for no less than 28 hours back in 1970, the whole time spent in the terminal and the second was a Tarom TU 154 (YR-TPL) from Brussels to Heathrow in Oct. 79. I had been on Sabena standby and decided to pay full whack to go on the Tarom flight which had just landed from Bucharest. I am not that tall but I walloped my head on the rear door and almost knocked myself out, The first aid consisted of a brute of a stewardess (built like Mike Tyson) wrapping one arm around my shoulders and rubbing my head so hard I thought my skull was going to snap off. I was also starving and the “meal” consisted of a platic cup of some kind of cola.
I have had some good flights mind you.

Seat pitch is very important on long haul flights
I have flown many a L/H flight with a 30-32 inch pitch in my younger days which made for a very arduous trip.
These days i can afford to travel business class so those flights are just a bad memory.

JMC out of Kos into MAN a couple of years ago. The flight itself was fine… once it finally left…. roughly 24 hours later! It made headline national news as all the greek islands jammed up one saturday night due to fog. Flights going to places such as Kos and Rhodes could not land, a/c already there could not depart, planes were diverting to Crete mainly but Crete quickly filled up so a/c were backing up to Athens and beyond. it took days to return shedules to some form of normality. what a mess it was!

Around May 2001 I believe.

Cheers

What is the seat pitch on MYT?

I think the legal minimum is 28″, and although I’ve never experienced that, I have flown long hauls with 31 or 32″ before and coped.

mikeconnell MyTravel last March-April, Gatwick – Bergamo and back.

I had the same experience with MyTravel from Bristol to Tennerife on a B757 last year.
They have packed so many seats into the a/c It was so uncomfitable. I am 6ft and 17 stone and my legs during the flight were hurting so much it felt like my knees were near my ears. I couldnt move them without nudging the seat infront. My g/f is 5ft 3 and she couldnt move her legs either.
I had to pay extra for the food which was dire and the staff just wanted to get the flight over with ASAP.
The in-bound flight to Bristol wasnt any better, and the pilot planted the a/c on the runway so hard, some of the overhead lockers flipped open! He even said on the comms as we were taxing that, and this is his quote….”Sorry about the landing, it wasnt my best, and by no means was it my worst!”
I wont be flying MyTravel again.

I hate flying long haul… especially as I get bored very easily… can’t sleep while sitting… and like to be able to move around! So my most forgettable flight was the one I took to the States last year… flying a Bmi A330. Wasn’t a bad flight… was impressed with everything about it… the aircraft, the service… it was just too damn long!!!! I’m not really looking forward to my flight to Canada , but I guess you’ve just got to take the rough with the smooth to get anywhere in the world!

John, TWA never flew 737’s. As far as you being glad they’re no longer around, you’re entitled to your opinion. However, does one lousey flight justify wishing that, upon one of the most influential airlines in the history of aviation? I’ve had flights as bad as yours on America West, and I surely do not wish that fate upon them, let alone any airline, and their name isn’t even in the same ballpark as TWA’s. At any rate, what wound up happening to that flight Mike? On my journey to and fro LHR this last week and a half, all 4 of my UA flights arrived a half hour early every time.

I hope UAL aren’t about to join this list – my wife’s currently on one of their 777s from LHR to IAD and only ‘E’ seats in the centre of the 5-wide central block were available on check in (we had flown down from MAN on BD who were unable to check her in for United there earlier because the flight number for her IAD-CMH connection had changed).

To add to that I just found on UAL’s site that it’s nearly 2 hours late due to a schedule change caused by aircraft servicing 🙁

MyTravel last March-April, Gatwick – Bergamo and back.

Seriously cramped A320, and I’m 6’5″ tall. On the way back my legs were so wedged in against the seat in front that the table would not lower properly, so the crew refused to serve me the meal that I had paid extra for (not that it looked worth worrying about). I really limped off that plane.

My girlfriend and I took a flight on a TWA 737 from San Jose to St Louis. The seating schedule was all messed up – even for those of us who booked our seats before we got to the airport.

Everybody who was travelling with at least one other person got separated. The cabin crew didn’t want to sort it out so us passengers did between ourselves. The flight left 90 minutes late.

While airborne I was seated in the row right next to the toilet and the door on it didn’t stay shut, it kept swinging open when unoccupied. It stunk like hell.

It was the longest 3 and a half hours of my life. I never flew TWA again after that and I am glad they are no longer around.

Well as I said there was not enough security at the airport and they weren’t going to risk letting us of, also when check-in for your return flight your Bottom of your green waiver form is removed thus meaning you have departed the country and I doubt that there was a full immigration team ready just for us at that time of the night to re-admit us into the country.

Florida Dude, how do you mean they wouldn’t let you? Couldn’t you just walk off?

I mean, you already had a US stamp in your passport, so immigration wouldn’t be the issue.

I think we would have liked too of got off but they would’nt let us.

I think my mum has had a more worse flight, the next story begins a few years back and my mum and dad were flying out Bermuda for my dads next race, they flew AA 767-??? to JFK but half way over the atlantic one of the generators went out, they were told that they will continue on, then another generator went out and left the plane in complete darkness (other than the floor lights) and the pilots began an emergency landing into Gander. As the plane came into land they lost power and alls my mum can remember seeing is the forest getting very close and all the passenger holding on and each other. A few bumps later they had landed at snowey Gander, Canada were funnily enough all of the local folk had come to greet them, all of the passengers were wearing light clothing and so quickly dashed to the small terminal.
They were told that another plane was being sent up from JFK, when that plane arrived it took a couple of hours to move all of the baggage over to the other plane becuase as Gander is just a small military airport, they only had two baggage handlers and one piece of loading/unloading machinery. they eventually made it to Bermuda n time for my dads race.

The End

Easily an LY flight in ’98. I was going back from visiting my relatives in Israel and was squashed like a sardine. It was the last flight I flew with them.

Well my story begins back way back, It was my second time to Florida and we flew AirUk Leisure a 767-300 series I think and after an hour’s delay at MCO for our return flight we finally boarded but wait, one of the lavatory’s was broken and so a plumber had to be called out. Three hours later we finally left MCO. A little into the flight there was some confusion in the first cabin, a lady had a heart attack (typical) and we were forced to land at EWR , it was really fun watching all the ambulances etc follow the plane to the gate. Once she had been carted off it was very late and the pilot came on and said “we are currently searching for hotels for night and we will continue our journey tommorow”, the whole plane began to pack up and gather up when the pilot comes back on two hours later and sais “I’m sorry we don’t seem to be able to any hotels, but you may sleep in the terminal” we all looked at each other and thought ‘theres no hotel rooms in NEW YORK city!!’. Another two hours pass and another announcement “were sorry but we are unable to depart the aircraft because the terminal does not have enough security to watch over us”, some of the passengers revolted and demanded somethig was done. As the crews flying limitation time was drawing closer it was now too late to continuee to the UK, we flew all the way back to MCO were our crew departed and we awaited another replacement crew. eventually we arrived home another 12 hours later.

The End
